I would think you would just lose your deposit. "I understood that if I didn't purchase the truck, I'd lose my deposit."I called Chip at Granger and he gave me an order sheet with pricing, like he has for many others.
I then sent an email to the local dealer requesting pricing for the truck I had ordered. The initial agreement was left blank cause the “MY21 pricing is different than MY22 pricing.” The local dealership said MSRP was my price. I said that wasn’t good enough. They countered that I had agreed to an MSRP sales price when I signed the agreement. I don‘t remember that ever being discussed.
So I placed a separate order for the exact same truck with Chip at Granger this afternoon.
I understand I’ll be eating the deposit I put down with the local dealer. My only concern is that they might try and force me to buy the truck based on the purchase agreement. The truck is either already built or being built this week.
Am I on the hook for the original order other than losing my deposit?
Who is your local dealer…just out of curiousity? If you’re in the Denver metro area I would expect you wouldn’t have any difficulties getting out of the order. Personally, I’d try to ask for the deposit back - if you think they have not acted in good faith (doesn’t sound like it if the price was blank) and see what they say. Vehicles are in such short supply now locally The dealers are looking for anything they can get on their lot….and sell MSRP or above.I called Chip at Granger and he gave me an order sheet with pricing, like he has for many others.

It’s a pretty vanilla order, in my opinion. Thanks for the advice. The sales person was pretty adamant that I didn't have to take delivery, but all that matters is what’s in writing obviously.Who is your local dealer…just out of curiousity? I’ve done a few orders now across dkfferent makes / models and have always had some sort of pricing structure agreed up front, if not a specific price. Either % above invoice or in the case of Granger % below. For the Mercedes GLE 450 I ordered a few years back I agreed on % above invoice and when the car arrived the invoice price actually dropped as it was at the end of the MY.
Other Ford dealers around here were willing to quote a specific % above invoice up front. So, I’d take the approach of:
“the contract has no agreed price or way to calculate the price. Cars are in high demand. Keep it, and return my deposit.”
The exception I see to the above is if you have a very unique build that would not be appealing to most buyers and would sit on the lot….but it is unlikely in the current market.
I’m sure others may have different / better advice.

I did change the order on Monday afternoon with Chip. Chip is a super nice guy to work with.Glad to help. Dearborn stopped production for 3 days and started back up again today due to a number of parts being short. Hopefully they can continue production without interruption and not end up with a slow down like this summer.
Good luck with your build.
I'm not in CO but I had my truck shipped to me in Las Vegas. You will have to make all of the shipping arrangements yourself and keep Granger in the loop but they were great and had my truck ready to go when the guy got there to pick it up. Get a hold of Chip and he'll let you know what he needs from you which is basically the name of the auto transport company, the name of the driver and actual name of the company that is moving your truck if possible and what time the driver expects to arrive. FWIW 99% of the transport companies are not the actual mover of your truck, they're the middle man that makes all of the arrangements. For several reasons I chose to have my truck shipped to me instead of flying out to get it myself. You can DM me if you want more details.Has anyone from the Denver metro ordered from Granger and had the truck shipped / completed paperwork remotely? I have a ‘22 Lariat PB on order with Granger and trying to decide if it is worth the two days of time to fly and drive back….or if I should just have it shipped. Interested in both experiences. Likely will be taking delivery mid-Feb which is not an ideal time to make that drive — especially with the two kids the wife will be sending along if I try to escape!
Thrilled with Granger so far, just trying to work out getting the truck home once it arrives at Granger.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
This is great info Wolf and I just sent you a DM. I never actually thought of having the truck shipped. I'm on Long Island, NY and the cost of flying out to IA and then doing that 1800 mile drive back home was stressing me out a bit because of the cost and the wear and tear on a brand new truck. Thanks again!I'm not in CO but I had my truck shipped to me in Las Vegas.
