I'm guessing that was just a foolish choice of words on someone's communication with the customer.
In all fairness to the techs working on the Powerboost, how could it not be common for them to be doing "their first" on any kind of low percentage factory defect repair? The owner of this truck is having poor luck indeed, but the issue is not common and I don't believe representative of what the vast majority of Powerboost owners are experiencing.
He could swap it for an Ecoboost, but swapping for yet another Powerboost is probably just as good of odds of having a good truck.
I think if this case was representative this forum would be flooded with similar problems (just go check the Mach-E or Bronco forums … : )
I have no problem with a tech or a whole service department doing their "first" whatever on a PowerBoost. We had a factory trained Ferrari tech who specialized in transmissions – he took two _DAYS_ to fix an electric mirror (the book time was like 1.5 hours …) and he said "it was my first one … nobody's been dumb enough to ask an engine builder to fix a mirror." and I had to agree with him … I was the idiot in that foul up. : )

issues from spun main bearings 2days after driving off lot to wonky transmissions (took connections at Chryslerto get resolved) everyone brand has issues. modern vehicles are complex beasts and you have to expect issues with them. ESP the more toys and gadgets we install in them, the more there is to cause problems.

Best advice I can give,? Not happy with the truck? Dump it while The market is still hot for used and try again

I'd suggest placing another order with another dealer. I did this because the first dealer … wasn't communicating with me … I'm sure that's just a coincidence … : ) … when my order had come in at #1, I'd already been driving a truck I bought from dealer #2 and dealer #1 had never even bothered to read my emails to understand my impatience and my "I'm going to go looking for this truck" comments. And yes, my Platinum PowerBoost FX4 long bed, max tow, tow mirrors, fold flat seats and, and, and is chock full o' chips. I tried to find a friend who would want my order since they were rare then of course but the dealer said I either buy it in my name or they mark it up $10,000 (ended up being advertised for two weeks at $7500 gouge) … I still like the service people at that dealer, but chances of me buying another truck there are zero (and I ordered the Lightning where I bought the PowerBoost.)
I agree with your statement and reasoning but... I've been doing business with this Dealership for over 30 years and every new Ford I've ever purchased came from this dealer.

It's not the "dealer". It's Ford.

But... it "is what it is" and "me" with my one little measly purchase of a truck NOBODY buys (which is why I had to order it) isn't going to sway a billion dollar international corporation like Ford.

I am perfectly aware of the situation but that doesn't mean I have to like it or be quiet about it.

Despite their horrible, unforgiveable "customer service"... FORD is AWESOME!

I gotta throw some dealer service into the mix. With a Wonky trans in my 11 Fusion and Having to show the dealer how to correctly get data logger to correctly from it. It was topped by a mechanic that said extensive road testing failed to duplicate the problem, I was told to leave when I questioned how could the shortest round trip on the divided highway was 2.75 miles, yet the odometer showed .1 miles.

Yeah... Dealerships can vary drastically. They should know better than to try to B.S. about something like that when you can easily track your truck on the Ford app.

And if they don't know that... shame on them!

FORD is AWESOME!


...although not all dealerships are.

I'm now regretting buying my Powerboost. It stranded me 3 times when trying to start it. It will momentarily show ready then go to accessory with "stop safely now" red warning and malfunction lights. It would eventually start after 3 or 4 hours. Check engine light stays on but drivable. Dealer tried a tsb update and gave it back. Did it again. The dealer kept the truck for 2 weeks. Nothing. A month ago, it did it again in my garage and the next morning it still wouldn't start. It got towed to the dealer and wouldn't start on the rollback and then started when the tech plugged it in. Anyway, it was decided to replace the electric drive unit. This is a first for the dealer and I am losing confidence that they can actually do the replacement. I was told yesterday the trans is out and they need to get a come-along to pull it apart. They say there is no puller tool available from Ford. I'm now thinking I'll be ordering an Ecoboost soon and dump the Powerboost.

I have had one major repair issue. The electronic brake booster went out and caused several other issues at the same time.

I have more of an annoyance than a regret. Love everything but the forced wireless Android Auto. Sometimes I get interference from other electronics, I guess, so most the time when I'm backing up in to my garage, the audio gets all choppy and I just got the power button while I'm backing up. Not really a huge issue and it's only happened to me once outside of backing in to my garage. Other than that, I love both F150s I've had for different reasons!

So far I've been very pleased with the truck itself. It's been mentioned in part but I will say again the lack of clarity from Ford on software rollout strategy, timelines etc is very frustrating. We have a few little glitches with the Sync as have been raised many times and I'm comfortable that they will be resolved through updates but the question that continues is when exactly. We all know updates are out but I continue to wait. Assuming the FoMoCo reply above is not Nicole Westerhouse maybe they can offer some window into the roll out process.

No regets, but I have a couple things I haven't quite figured out yet...
1. And this is coming from driving a German sedan and my wife's Escalade, so I accept some learning on my part, but...there's a bit of a delay after putting my foot on the accelerator or after switching gears, almost feels like it's trying to decide whether to fire the combustion engine or stay in electric. I can't tell if that's the transmission or the computer and engine/motor. I don't know, it feels a little schizophrenic, I'm not dissatisfied, I'll take the better fuel efficiency, but I'm not quite used to that lack of responsiveness yet. I'd say it's probably a full 1 - 1.5 seconds on the delay. I know that sounds like nothing, but it's just something I'm not quite used to yet. Put another way, if I put my foot down from a dead stop, it takes a second before it seems to register and start moving.

2. Ford Sync (not F150 PB specific) is a little buggy to me, sometimes it feels like it gets a mind of it's own. I'll be playing the radio and then it will switch to Apple Car Play and then back or when I turn on the car, the Sync will flash a screen with a spinning/loading circle and while I can just click "close" and it closes but again, just something I suppose I have to get used to.

Posting the above more just to see if anyone has any suggestions on fixing or educating me on stuff I'm doing wrong. All in all, pretty amazing machine and my wife was a hard 'no' on the truck with plenty of eye rolls along the path to purchase and now one month in continues to say how impressed she is. Last weekend I believe she said, "best car I've ever been in" and she owns an Escalade and we test drove the other big truck brands as well as a Range Rover and the new Chevy SUV before this purchase - she's insisting we take the truck on our long-distance road trip for the Thanksgiving holiday instead of her Cadi. The massaging seats might have had something to do with that ;-)

I understand that you can spec out an ordered vehicle exactly the way you want, but apart from that; what is the appeal of order a vehicle vs just picking one up off the showroom floor?
I ended up with mine going the opposite way: I first decided on the trim level I wanted based on the seat shape and personal preference. I then went to Ford’s build website, then selected search dealers in my area.

I found one at my local dealer that had everything I wanted except the tow mirrors. The dealer gave me a $1000 discount to cover adding them later if I changed my mind. I will probably just add $500 worth of side + rear cameras to my travel trailer instead.
