Just wondering if anyone is like me, and kept their Trip Meter (Trip B) from New untouched. I tend to always do that, so I can see lifetime/all around use numbers.

My Trip B has about 535 hours of use. 12,000 miles.

Lifetime average of 22.4 mph. My MPG on Trip B lifetime is about 21.

I idle a LOT, which is one of the reasons I bought the Powerboost. So to average a lifetime 21MPG while having idled more than 50% of its life, I feel is what helps make this truck amazing. I easily idle 6 to 8 hours in the ON and Ready position for A/C, music, etc.

I got this truck on May 15, 2021. That's about 150 days of ownership. I don't drive it EVERY DAY. But dividing 150 days by 535 engine hours still equals 3.5 hours of engine, if I calculated the average per day for EVERY day.

Comparatively, my 2019 Ram Hemi V8, with not even stop/start averaged about 11 lifetime with same lifestyle.

There are many ways this Powerboost can be used that improve conditions. For instance, the generator. The idle gas savings for people like me. AND the traveling MPG.

Do you guys happen to calculate your lifetime engine hours etc on Trip B as well?

yeah, I generally try to leave trip B for vehicle lifetime MPG on all our vehicles (even though you asked about Hours, it applies to MPG as well). Then reset trip A at each tank fill up.

That's exactly what I do too, and watch This Trip each drive. Clicking back down into Trip A for the tank periodically.

Funny how a lot of us are so alike.

I plan to this time.

In the past, I've used the Trip B to keep track of mpg, and gallons used, etc for long trips I've gone, such as my 2 month trip from VA to CA and return.

I will continue to use Trip A for each tankful.

One thing I don't like though is it says 535 hours... and implies engine life. When in reality, sitting idle for 6 hours in the hybrid maybe used no more than 20 or 30 minutes of actual engine.

The number is WAY off in terms of engine running time.

But still, 21 MPG for the lifetime all around, every condition drive is GREAT. Haven't towed yet, but trust me, I lay down some spirited driving a decent amount of time.

Idling wasted hundreds of dollars of fuel for me in the RAM. Now, it's like only a few bucks. It's a crazy improvement.

I have mixed feelings about the hours meter myself. On one hand it's a bragging point because as you have described, this truck has to be the King of "idle", even compared to the old school diesels. But on the other hand it is very misleading to someone looking for a used Powerboost and doesn't understand. Lol

It would maybe help if Ford added a second hour meter that only counted ICE hours? :)
Because it can easily take 20 hours of Powerboost idle to equal 1 actual hour of ICE. Simply amazing.

As for trip meters, I use Trip A for each tank of gas. And I use the clever "This Trip" for its intended purpose. Trip B isn't part of "My View", so I haven't touched it.

By the way, I got my Powerboost 6 days after you.

Speaking of idling, I was sitting in the truck with heat going (not a lot, it was 50ish outside) for a while, and noticed the Powerboost can idle without the engine kicking on for so long that I could actually lose appreciable engine temperate (gauge went from half to a quarter). The engine never kicked on before I ended up getting out of the truck. Love this thing

I was (am) curious about winter ratio of ICE-per-hour VS summer. (~3 minutes per hour)

Although I live on the gulf coast and winter isn't exactly the same as many others. Still, we DO run heat rather than AC on occasion. ?

I suspect that after ICE runs long enough to get substantial ECT temps, it might actually take LESS battery to warm the cabin than cool it because the AC compressor draw wouldn't apply?

Your experience might validate just that.

There is an engine hour meter that's buried in a menu in the gauge cluster that is true engine running hours (i.e. doesn't count when engine is off, even when vehicle is moving). Might be a way to cross-reference overall vehicle hours vs true engine run hours.

It's cool to see the average-mpg comparison vs your Ram. Looks like the Powerboost is definitely providing a benefit... hopefully equating to some cost savings in fuel use too.

I can't find it... at all. If you know the path off the top of your head please share. I've yet to open the manual... app or book. I think car manuals are for ladies. I'd rather never use a feature before I open a manual up. Kind of my own man card punishment for not figuring something out.

Asking someone is not the same though. So do you know the path?

I believe, the compressor draw will depend more on humidity than temp. Since the refrigerant is used to condition the air. The draw would be less, since colder air often isn't as humid, but the compressor will still apply.

I had my compressor in the Jeep fail and in the winter, heat on... oh boy.... you still needing that compressor. Without the compressor going on during winter the fan just blows unconditional engine heat. Humid. Windows fog up. Etc.

So I suppose numbers would be different region to region. For instance, a powerboost in Denver in 40 degrees, versus me in 40 degrees but more of a humid area. My compressor is going to be trying to condition denser air.

My theory tho, all things considered and relative, what I may do in the coming days while I sit idle forever, is hook up my old reader and watch guages. I'll watch transmission Temps etc and see if I can see a pattern of why it comes on. I know it comes on to charge the battery. But dies anything else like low engine Temps, tranny Temps, etc make it trigger?

I’ll have to pay more attention next time. I suspect run time may end up similar when it gets much colder, as I assume the engine is going to pop on at some unknown coolant temperature to warm back up after idling long enough. It took ~35 minutes to drop almost 1/4 on the gauge at 50 degrees

I too reserve Trip B for lifetime detail, but I'm a little disappointed that with all the technical capability in the new F150 powerboost, there isn't a widget in the Vehicle panel that shows a detailed view of lifetime views (idle - gas & electric, on board battery status or cycles), MPG, etc. That would free up the other trip for the driver.

Hit the "menu" button on the steering wheel, go to "Truck Info", then "Engine Information", should be in there along with oil life.

Here's mine (XLT 302A) - I'm at about 162 engine-on hours with almost 10k miles, total vehicle hours are probably 200-250 (I do reset Trip 2 before longer road trips, so don't have the lifetime total to go with this).

You're the man. Thank you... here is mine. You were spot on in your estimate. I have 318 hours of just sitting in battery mode. 542-224 = 318.
