You'd be surprised at just how many modules are on all on trucks. BLISS adds 2 radar units you can grab on ebay for $40/ea as they've been used for many years. Radar cruise ($300 module) doesn't show up until lariat high (though a $750 XLT/501 option). Outside of the BLISS units, a base XL and 302 high has the same modules in it. The high-end headlights w/ their own module don't show up until lariat high. It doesn't really add much cost, thus ford's profit on higher trims is where they really start to make money. That's why desired forms of the XL are going bye bye.I would imagine if you added up the number of electronic parts of all kinds in a XL short bed and compared it to a minimum XLT trim in a Crew or Super cab it would be significantly higher number.. It's one reason I'm thinking price jumps so high and quickly in higher trims. Actually the cost increase to go to a 8' bed in a single cab with it's 36 gallon fuel tank is really small! I believe we only have 2 or 3 years at most before the single cab is not offered at all.
They strip the XL of desired features not because of cost, but so you'll have to deal with plastic floors vs carpet, which costs them $10 at most? It's just a $$ grab.
Here's a base XL's modules
Vs lariat mid -- BLISS radars, shitty amp, trailer brake controller, wireless charger (not sure why this is a module), and the seat control module for cooled seats / running boards, and some memory options.
