If you can wait about a week I am going to release my F150 File for free. Finishing the prototypes. You can have it printed by anyone. If you want a custom one I can design it for a small fee. The one in the picture below is setup to use a MagSafe charger stand that I just bent down a bit so the cubby door would close. I have an android phone and it seem to work fine. I also have a version where the MagSafe charging circle will be in a custom holder. If you don't care/don't have a cubby door the options are endless to what wireless charger you want. See the last photo.

If you want something else designed I can print or send you the 3d Printer file (STL) for a small fee. I have designed business card holders, coin holder, etc.

That's an interesting idea! Someone else asked about this and I had responded I couldn't help there unfortunately. The trick there is the height of the phone in the holder. With the different power cables out there, you'd have to accomodate the plug lengths and also provide stress relieve room so the cable didn't turn to hard which would put your phone up pretty high obstructing the climate controls.

I say do it! :) Young or old... if you're savy with using software like CAD or Photoshop, learning 3d design and having a 3d printer is doable and addicting! :)
It's not age, it's time...lol. 3 young ones and work keep me from too many hobbies right now.

I would take it without the cable slot. I just hate there is no good place to put your phone (or for your passenger). The explorer has this figures out. Too bad Ford didn't bring that over.

You can see the explorer one here circled in red. They even put a recess so the charger cable can come out from the media bin

Hey all, new to the group. Thanks to all that posted suggestions for wireless charging.

I went ahead and installed one of the Anker wireless chargers in my 2021 F150. The fit is perfect but it barely charges my phone. I have a Google Pixel 6 Pro and yesterday while driving 30 minutes home it charged my phone 5%. I also tested wired charging from inside the storage console, both USB and USB 3.0 connections and the results weren't much better. My last truck was a 2015 F-150 Sport and it would charge fast, my usual drive home is 10 minutes it would charge 20% in that time.
My phone is 100% up to date, apps and OS. I'm just wondering if the wireless Android Auto/Bluetooth/WiFi is the issue. Looking for other peoples charging results. Thanks in advance!

This is why I don't want a wireless solution for my truck. When I do drive it and need to charge I would rather just plug it in.

I also have a pixel 6 pro and noticed that even plugged in and it saying "charging rapidly" it doesn't charge that fast.

I have a feeling it could be the phone. I've had Google Pixels for years but I've had more issues with this phone than any other. Also, the fact that it has that camera bump out makes it so the phone doesn't lay flat on the charger. My wife and son both have iPhone 13's so I'm going to test them. I would do away with the wireless except it seems the wired charging isn't any better so it's one less thing taking up space on my console. Currently charging my phone in the house to see if the results very or not.

I use my pixel 6 pro on at least one other charger (granted, the bump can hang off the edge). That said, at least he USB charging has always been fast wiht my phone. In the truck USB is a low slower. Maybe it's using the phone for GPS and Data for AA and that is what is causing it as well.

I just tried my wife's iPhone 13 and her charging was actually worse than mine over a 10 minute period. I guess it's just a combination of the charger not being rated a fast charging charger and the phone using Bluetooth, and data for Android Auto.

That factory wireless charger isn't anything to be proud of. Not worth the inconvenience of placing my phone out of reach.

Besides, the Powerboost is a rolling grid and has more outlets than my house. Lol

So if my phone is low on charge, I charge it the same way as I do in the RV. I plug it in.

The charger in my Lariat is nothing to write home about but works fine on my Samsung Galaxy even with the case. If I'm using Maps through Andriod Auto for a long drive I have a 6" cord plugged in and just use that. I could survive never having a wireless charger. I honestly don't understand the fascination with them.

Yeah, I’d say the wireless charger is one of the disappointments with this truck. While using AA, mine is only really able to maintain the battery percentage and the phone gets very hot. While plugged in, the battery increases and the phone is not hot. So, as the previous post mentions, any long drives I plug mine in to a 6” cable too.

In general, wireless charging is slower, which is actually better for your battery, though at the cost of being less efficient.

There is a big push to have phones charge faster and faster and that's not optimal for battery health.

That said, I have found wireless charging, at least in the truck, to be inadequate. The USB ports don't even provide enough power to keep my phone charged on a trip. Between gps and music, my phone slowly discharges, even plugged in. In my '17 with a third party charger in the 12v outlet in the center cubby, this was not a problem. I really miss that 12v option and no, I'm not gonna use the one on the back of the console. I may just install a 12v outlet in the cubby myself.

I’ll second the heat problem. I had an iphone 12 on the pad for 25 minutes, using carplay and was amazed at his hot it was. It was hotter than the point my Galaxy would do an overheat shutdown to save itself. Pad was hot to the touch after taking it off. All for a net change of adding 1% to battery.

I’m thinking the ford engineers may have found some old derelict hot plates and almost figured out way to have them wirelessly charge, lol

A 10amp charger makes it only slightly warm and piles on the charge no matter the load. Heck, even the lower amp media usb plug does better than the wireless pad without the heating.

For charging I just use the USB C in the media storage if I want Android Auto, or I use the USB C in the console if I just want charging. Both are far superior to the wireless pad that came with the truck. I can't believe that thing passed engineering testing. In fact it couldn't have. :)
