I agree we do have the ability to charge them, but in a moving vehicle on the back of the phone with the 5w output will take ages haha. in a pinch that works and I do use it on occasion.Your phone can charge other devices already.
truck > cord > your phone > other wireless device
I have a wireless charger in another vehicle w/ wireless andAuto and it heats up considerably more than sitting in the phone slot next to shifter w/ the 5v-3a coming from the USB C port in that same pocket.
If it was micro or mini USB I'd cuss it, but since C is uni directional it's not a big deal.
What sucks the most is having to use the front under-dash USB ports for wired connections vs being able to use an 18" cord from within the center console. Need to rig it up so that cord run is much easier.
Don't get me wrong, wireless has its places, but I default to plugged in communication vs wireless where possible.
I do want to make a hardwired dock, I have done that before for my specific phone and case in my fusion back in the day. I would have to create it to be able to fit multiple phones though, and would obviously be specific to android or iphone. My solidworks skills are much better now than then lol.
Side note: When iphone gets power share Maglock will be so helpful for them when it comes to charging other devices if they use that lol.
