I want to remove my passenger front seat and also the small passenger rear seat in my 2021 F-150 supercrew, put in a wood platform bed and memory foam mattress, and sleep inside the vehicle for a couple months while I travel the USA.

1. Will the safety systems still work for the other seat positions?
2. Will I get system fault lights, and what can I do about it?
3. Will chimes come on? How long will they last? What can I do about it?

This sounds good if it can be done and you are a tall person. One of the reasons I ordered my truck, SCREW, without the storage box was to get a large flat area in the back. I can sleep back there without issue. The only thing is that I cannot stretch out my legs flat while on my back. I sleep on my side anyway.

Your idea will still have a regulation passenger seat in the back and long bed area in the cab. This sounds great for a road warrior exploring the country. I hope you can do it. Good luck.

Don't know the answers but suspect it is Yes to all 3 base questions (no idea about defeating any effects).

Insofar as #2 & #3, referring to the attached it looks like it'd be easy enough to pull the front seat connectors without actually removing the seat, see what you get in the way of DTC's, warnings, etc.

At your own risk of course (I've not done this), good luck!

It's amazing how versatile the supercrew can be. There is a lot of space inside. I've slept inside the truck in the rear seat area for over 50 nights since 2021, but I would have slept better if I could stretch out more comfortably. If my measurements of the cab are correct I'll have about 6'4" of flat bed space after removing the passenger side front and rear seat. Since I am 5'9" I should be in heaven comfort wise.

I'm kind of excited about modding my inside cab because my previous solution was to use a ground tent for stretching out when I was dead beat tired. One thing I learned fast with ground tents is that finding flat level ground in a spot you can be at is often difficult to find. I also tend not to want to use tents if the setup and take down time interferes with my plans for the day.
  • Sleeping in the truck, even with no mods, makes it easier to level your sleeping area because you can level your truck.
  • With a platform bed in place of the passenger front and rear seat should take it to the next level... the ability to add spacers under the legs of the platform bed to level the bed independently of the truck level.

A quick update. Seats removed. Now when I start the truck I have to press the okay button to acknowledge that there is a rear belt monitor fault and service is required. The dash also shows a lit icon in the tachometer portion of the screen and a ? mark for seat belts. Once I press the okay button the icon still stays lit. Great news...not one chime and the dash display looks pretty clean otherwise.

With the seats removed I measured what I have available. I can add a platform that is 7 foot long and still have room to close the glove compartment. My current plan is to make the platform only 7" tall and put 6" of memory foam on it. I want the storage space to have the same amount of height as under my rear drivers/middle seat and the mattress to be at the same level as the top of the rear seat cushion.

If that is the only warning you get about the seat removals, that is great. Just hit OK and roll. The little icon is nothing as long as it is not beeping in your ear.

This gives you a significantly more secure and comfortable area to sleep instead of something in the bed or a roof tent. You can even get a LiFePO battery pack and run a heater or even an AC unit if you do not what to run the truck and then charge the battery pack back up the next day from the truck. Charge it up while you cook your breakfast on your induction cooktop. :)

Now just get one of those annual National Park passes for seniors and you will always have a relatively safe place to crash out when you travel. You can basically sleep anywhere but those passes are usually a bargain.

Keep the pics coming once you make the platform. This is a nice idea for a solo roller.

IF @Str8Shooter seeks reassurance that the driver's Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is not affected by the mod / remaining airbag indicator ....
  • You can run a DTC scan with a code reader via the OBD port
  • The attached (very long) Master DTC list is searchable using Adobe Reader
  • Enter each scan DTC in PDF search on the list to see if any are specific to the driver's seat position (many SRS DTC's on the list are seat / position specific in their description)
Just for example, search for DTC "B0001:13" reveals "Driver Frontal Stage 1 Deployment Control: Circuit Open".

Maybe a bit tedious, maybe not necessary, just providing IF interested in seeking that reassurance.

Funny story. I have a Military Lifetime pass, but guess what. I couldn't get 50% off camping even when I showed them my Military lifetime pass and drivers license that showed I was over 62 years old. I then purchased a lifetime senior pass to get 1/2 price camping. It didn't make sense to me, but was only $80 for the senior lifetime pass.

Dang! I do not know what the issue could of been but the person should have just given it to you anyway. Sometimes people look at things as a black and white issue, "no, the rule book says I cannot do this" and common sense can take a back seat. If someone has a lifetime military pass, just give them the discount and thank them for their service.
