Yep, already an on-road failure just normal towing. This is a pretty damn big deal!

Ford F-150 WhistlinDiesel Cybertruck vs F-150 Frame & Hitch Follow Up Test 🏗️ 😱 1724370121789-mh

It's a big deal because there's no safety chains left when the hitch departs

As much as I like the point this proves and that this vindicates a whole lot of truck lovers.. that poor truck lol. A long bed 18 5.0.. sure looked nice before he went to town on it.

it would be interesting to see a lightning or current 14th gen and if they have nanny safety features that the 13th gen Cody tested was lacking.. but regardless that really solidifies the point that a trailer hitch should in no case ever come apart from the frame without serious ungodly amounts of beating on it and direct force to make it come off.

Perhaps even worse, with the breakaway-brake lanyard typically fastened to the hitch - there's no braking to keep the trailer from running wild.

Yeah, curious when NHTSA gets involved. I don't see them making a fix so it'll be a recall / reduced towing is my guess. Crazy either way.

On a more serious note (for me anyway)

An RV trailer I’m interested in is made by InTech and they use an aluminum chassis and frame with welded connections. Is it just as susceptible to splitting like that? Or is this a giga press stamping flaw? Big bubbles in the casting?
Inherent Aluminum brittleness?

Just a poor design. Tesla clearly didn't take in a late F150 or other similar 1/2 ton and run an analysis on just how much the frames/hitch can take. Trucks 30-40 years ago were using cheapass bolt-on trailer hitches and that's what tesla went with (granted theirs is a bit more fancy). The modern integrated hitch that makes up the rear of the frame is very strong in other trucks. Cody bent the frame at the bed before he tore the hitch off. Of all the cybertrucks we saw going everywhere, none were towing. Basically they didn't know what they didn't know.

I'm thinking now they know. They should have discovered this in testing though, but they built a mall crawler, not a truck. Haven't looked at a recent build of a CT, but I'm curious to know if they still use those pathetic UCAs that they were able to bend in testing.
