What tailgate setup does my 2021 F150 have?

I just bought this 2021 XLT 4x4 Super Cab 5.0 Coyote. I'm very happy with the truck but I do have questions. It has the 302A trim package and my first question is about the tailgate. It has the electric button on the gate and that doesn't work. I have the button on the dash and on the fob as well, they both work to open the tailgate. My question is did they put out an electric power open tailgate option as well as a fully powered opening and closing version? I don't have any setting options for the tailgate at all. I dont get a tone or beep when the tailgate is opening either. If I key one of the working buttons while the gate is open it just cues the latches to open as if the gate is closed. I'm sure there is a motor involved for electrically closing the gate. Would it be the same motor that opens the gate?

I would pull the tailgate switch out and check it. Also, could check to make sure the truck is not locked. That would disable the switch on the tailgate.

Yes to checking switch.

Tailgate button will function at any time as long as you have your fob with you. I often get in tailgate with truck locked.

Have the fob with you is the key part. If locked and no fob..no work

I have tried with the truck locked and unlocked. The fob has been on me in all cases.
Whats the procedure for getting the switch out to test it? I am a mechanic and fearless about dismantling and re-assembly.

Have you ever had tailgate off truck?

If your camera works and tailgate release does not then I would think it is a wiring issue. Not sure if it is all one connection but should not be too much to follow the wiring looking for issues in harness. It could just be a plug not seated properly.

The camera and the little light work fine. I havent gone thru them yet but looked like alot of harness connectors underneath to check thru. I have heard of issues with them. I have never had the tailgate off the truck.

This person, same issue as you. Doesn't say what dealer did to fix it but I'm assuming the button.

Quick googling looks like an aftermarket button is less than $15.

Push the button on the dash, tailgate drops. Push it again, it goes up. As for the fob... push the button twice, tailgate drops. Push it twice again, it goes up.

I bought the truck gently used and there wasnt a window sticker. I myself didnt count on or care that the truck had a power tailgate. If the release button on the gate worked I wouldnt even care whether the gate closed itself or not. Because the button does not work, I'm looking into the whole situation.

Power closing tailgate was not an option on XLT (Lariat minimum trim), only the step option and damped remote opening (not certain if it was motorized or gravity/damped)
