I have this apparently unused connector just dangling by my trailer connection. I say unused because I don't see anywhere it could plug in.

My truck is a '22 Platinum with max tow, CCD suspension, smart hitch. I have both 7 pin and 4 pin connection points.

This dangling connector has no cover. I suspect it has something to do with a trailer camera hookup. I'm planning on just covering it with some electrical tape to keep the elements out. I would appreciate an education on what this connector is and how it is used.

That plug has the mating plug in it as a cap. Yours has a lot more wires than mine.

2021 Lariat - looks like that is the harness for the trailer sway module. It was included in 2021, but since has been removed and is an add-on option. Pretty big connector for only 2 wires.

I compared my truck to my friend's similarly equipped '21 truck. The trailer hookup sockets are different. '21s need a 4 pin adaptor while '22s don't. The connector going into the bottom port on the '21s is very similar to my dangling connector.

I think its just if the truck came with the YAW sensor for the trailer. Guessing yours did not and your friends did?

So when they took away the YAW sensor, they gave you a 4-pin trailer connector in that place instead. Well that's nice. Kind wish I had that...since I've owned this truck for almost 3 years and still haven't used my YAW sensor....

YAW sensor, that must be on higher end trims? My 21 XLT has the plug but no YAW sensor. I would love to have the 4 pin trailer connection. I hate the frickin’ adaptor. I have already lost my original.

When I first saw the Yaw sensor I was pretty pumped but by the time my truck was ordered and built, they went back to the stickers and changed back to supplying the 7 and 4 pin connectors, vs having to use the 7-4 adaptor.

I'm glad of it. Much cheaper if owning more than one trailer, less to go wrong and the tongue of my TT is going to be crowded enough as it is.

I think came with all 2021 trucks that had the Pro-Trailer backup, which I believe was included with the Max Tow package, at least on Lariat and up.

That same connector is not only for the trailer yaw sensor, but was also intended for trailer backup cameras and trailer TPMS.
So way is there only three wires running to the plug? Does Ford use CAN bus to send all the information? It seems rather odd to install a 12 pin connector to only use three wires.

From other posts it looks like 2021 Job 2 trucks did not ship with the sensor. Not that I need it since I can backup a trailer using my mirrors.

Edit: more searching revealed that you have to replace the wire harness and trailer plug to get TPMS and the backup camera.

Should there be a protective cap on this female plug? Mine doesn't have one. Just wondering if I'm missing the cap or do as I plan and just cover with electrical tape.
