I have wondered what would happen if you bought a second HV battery and connected it in parallel with the existing one.

Would the BMS and charging system just freak out?

Or, with the voltage staying the same as stock, would it just use the extra capacity the same way it does with the just the single HV battery?

If so, couldn't we drive twice as far in electric mode until the ICE kicked in?

I also wonder how big and how heavy the HV battery is?

Thoughts?

You would probably end up placing the second battery in the bed as there probably isn't enough room below.

Yeah, I’ve often wondered the same thing. One can install a second battery toward the floor of the bed door in some type of compartment like a toolbox.

In theory, it would work. Second battery being wired to the original would essentially just make it a larger, higher aH battery. That intern should double the range that the truck would travel in EV.

The HV battery really isn't that big on an F150. Just looking at this I don't see why you couldn't put one in the Spare Tire location, Under the rear seat (although maybe there is a safety issue here), could probably fit one on each side of the bed (wouldn't sacrifice anymore space than the RAM bed boxes). Also I have no idea if what is pictured is the 2.4k or the 7.2k...

But then again, any 'other' location for this battery would make it much more susceptible to being damaged in an accident, so very unlikely Ford would ever do this.

The battery doesn’t change with the 2.4 vs 7.2
That’s all inverter and programming mostly.

Good thought about the spare tire location. Could turn the truck into a Pinto though. Then you also lose your spare, or have it in the bed taking up space.

There are already enough HV batteries burning!

It would be cool to see a bigger battery option though.

We are in need of the powerboost 2.0. Hopefully the next gen truck has some developments to improve things. Solid state batteries would be a nice upgrade.

There was a company in Boston, MA was converting F series trucks by adding a electric motor at the tail shaft of transmission, a new shorter driveshaft, HV battery at spare tire location and spare tire moved to bed location. I think they stopped doing it under new management.
