So I took my new to me used 21 in to my dealer to have some services done, 30K, that I cannot do in my garage. While I was there, I gave my service guy the list of my pending updates and asked if they would do them, he said yes. Sometime later, he came to me with the list and said that the tech assigned to it told him that he certainly would do the BCM for me ($195) but, he would not do the rest since they were not necessary because I was not having any issues that they may address. He said that if he did them all, the charge would be about $1700. He said that the one of the updates, I believe the CMR, was a 7 hour update alone and definitely would not do it because of the time and cost. Another that he said he would not do is the gear shift module (GSM). What I find interesting about that is, I have swapped my original out for a turn knob and I wonder if he saw that and thought it would be an issue.

So yes I left only getting the BCM done, but at least that one is done since they have to do it. Time to break out my Mongoose!

Question: Anyone had the GSM done and have changed their shifter to the knob?

CMR would take the dealer 30 minutes to update and GSM would take less than 5.
Is there one for the cameras that takes a long time? Because I have their survey and if they lied to me, I am not shy about blasting them.

My updates that were due are: ABR, CMR,ACM,DSP,TRM,WACM, GSM,DDM,DSM,HVAC, PDM, SCMG, SCMH and BCM

Camera one is the CMR. Definitely would take them under 1 hour for that module.
TRM and WACM take 4 minutes each. I had mine done at dealer recently.

Well, they screwed themselves out of money. I guess the tech wanted to do other jobs that he could bill more on.

The IPMA takes 3 hours with a Mongoose but about half that time for the dealer to do if the have a VCM3 which by now, I assume most of them do have.

I read your post in "What did you do to your F-150 today".
Would you mind sharing what they charged you for doing the 30k service?
I note that you did brake, trans and coolant flush.
Thank you.

I will do it over there as not to muddy this.

Is this also the Bluecruise lane change update?

It's included in there, yes, but the way the dealer does the update does enable lane change. That part you need to do yourself with FORScan.

Wait, does your statement read right? did you mean that the way the dealer does it does not?

FDRS does not enable the BC 1.4 features. It installs the software only. The dealer does not have a way to enable lane change etc until Ford engineers add that ability to FDRS.

Techs tend not to like doing controller updates unless you can show that you need the update. My truck was at the dealer for over two weeks recently due to them soft bricking two of my controllers.

The sad part was that FDRS tells them the state of the controllers by color coding them. Rather than mentioning this to Ford in their chat with support, they would only mention that programming it fails out fairly quick. So, Ford support was wasting time asking them to clean the connector and try a different laptop. I was able to convince them to let me help and took them through the PMI process for the controllers that were purple. It took about 3 hours of sitting with the tech before I finally had my truck back with the updates complete. I also had to force reboot one of the controllers to get an old DTC to clear or else it would have been another half hour of waiting. They wondered if I had any desire to do software updates for them as a side gig.
