"Price is what you pay. Value is what you get."

Everybody likes to bitch about prices lately and trucks have taken quite a jump the last several years but just for grins, thought I'd run through this exercise, comparing my current truck (which I love) to the 2023, I'm hoping to receive in a couple weeks.

Allowing that more and more complex systems have inherent reliability risk compared to a 2001, that has been near perfect, it's entire life, here is the sticker of my 01 truck, I ordered new.

And the sticker from the new one.

Something over dbl. the price in 22 years.

Within 2lbs. of each other on payload but the 23 has just shy of dbl. the towing capacity.

The 23, will yield a reasonably expected 50% increase in fuel efficiency!

I've gotten along fine with the super cab but the new one is a crew. Both 4x4. One with limited slip, the other, eloc. Both electronically shifted but the new one, with available AWD, heated and cooled seats, cameras and sensors. BLIS! For good or ill, traction and sway control. Multiple, onboard, trailer and hitching tools.

The old one, has one, 12v power port. The new one, 12V and 120V power ports galore AND a 7.2KW built in inverter generator!

With the old one, I'd be the guy climbing a mountain with a trailer, screaming at 40mph in the slow lane. The new one, will take the same load at the speed limit and have room to spare, while having multiple on board diagnostics and self protection systems, if something were to go wrong.

Built in NAV, phone sync capabilities and WIFI hotspot.

Anyway, those are just a few things that come to mind.

I agree with this sentiment.

A run through an inflation calculator shows $30,000 in 2001 is worth $51,388.42 today.

That '01 XLT would be handled by an extended cab XL with an Eco Boost feature wise at $45,040.
