I took my truck to the Ford dealer today for the hard shift between 3rd and 4th gears, both up and down. Service advisor said transmission re-flash has to be done first. When I got there, the tech showed the service advisor that they don’t do the reflash for the 10R80 anymore since it’s been replaced by a new procedure (i.e not fixing the issues).

I’m scheduled to go back later this week or next for them to run a pressure test and check if there are any leaks at the CDF drum. If they find any, they’ll tear down the transmission and rebuild it with updated CDF drum and bushings.

So, they skipped the reflash entirely and will run the necessary tests soon (I'm glad bc im past the 36k warranty and premium care does not cover computer re-flashes...also, one less step). They're also going to inspect the valve body to make sure the valves aren’t sticking.

I’ll update you all once I have more info from the shop.

I am confused
Do you have ford premium care?

If a reflash/programing is ford repair procedure, it's covered

It's actually good to see
Pressure tests and some diagnostic going on. But tech should have done thst at your appointment, not reschedule
It's all in the data logging
Truck computer has the data on pressures at a mouse click

Yes I have premium care 7yr/125k. I called corporate and the dealer no computer reflash is covered under it.

Yeah we'll see how that test goes next week.

That is nuts
If it's an approved ford repair
It's covered
Optional ones are not...
Like updating vehicle because a new update exists..
But Like bcm update..it's optional..unless you have battery charge issues. Then it's part of repair procedure to test the system, which requires the update
Will be Watching to see outcome

They won't be doing the update now. Just the pressure test (which is covered). If it fails then they'll put the updated CDF drum in (I've heard good things about people who got the new updated CDF drum). But it's either that or the valve body sticking I'd assume. I'll keep y'all updated.

I have mixed feeling about this. Having the tranny pulled out is a big job so I would be worried something not being done correctly. On the other hand if the CDF replacement is the known fix, and Ford will cover it, then this is a good thing.

Transmission is a 5/60 warranty item though. 3/36 is bumper/bumper.

I don't understand how there would be anything regarding warranty on the 10r80 being affected by Premium care or being beyond 3/36

The inconsistency between dealerships, or even the service writers at the same dealership is amazing.

I'm over the 60k power train on my truck so I'll need to use premium care to cover it. I just cracked 63k on the truck.

From what I've heard the new CDF is better and Mason with FlyingWrenches has made some good videos on the 10r80.

What gears does each of the CDF clutches correspond to?

Following. I havent heard about the leak test before. I had a bad downshift in a turn yesterday that actually chirped the rear tires.
on my 06 super duty in tow haul, it would chirp going from 4th to 3rd to 2nd if you braked quicker
then they did a darn reflash to soften it  ?

Given its a safety issue if youre trying to get out of the way of traffic, when is the next recall?

Not really a safety issue for me like it seems with y'all locking up. Mine is just shifting harsh from 3-4 and sometimes has a harsh downshift from 4-3.
