Im still experiencing some very hard 4th to 3rd downshifts and weird torque converter behavior after 2 table resets. I went to the quicklane at the dealership to see if fluid was low and they couldn't do it because they didn't have a master tech available. The regular dealership shop wanted to keep it for 2 weeks+ to diagnose. One of the techs told me they have 50+ vehicles in for 10 speed issues and thought it might be CDF drum related. I can't really drop it off too long because of two upcoming long distance trips. The advice was drive it until it gets worse and the warranty gets older, then have them replace it. The mastertech seemed to think a recall was in the works.

I might try some lubegard platinum this weekend.

If it is the CDF drum, I'm not sure there's anything fluid based that will help?
It's a dang lousy scenario.

A tech can swap both axles out in under an hour, is what I have heard. So with enough inventory on hand, the 113,000 (226,000 axles) trucks could get in/out relatively quick.

But exchanging that drum? What a mess! Daunting.

I didn't think it was the drum either because 3-4/4-3 improves when fully warm, but doesn't get eliminated completely. The tech went right to thinking drum though. I had thought maybe valve body given the temperature sensitivity and that's why I was debating trying lubegard.

Well there's definitely different things that can go wrong with modern transmissions. But the 10r80 has its most common issues.

Very sensitive to fluid level. But has to be good and hot before checking and adjusting.

Then there's the evidence of some having faulty torque converters, as well as solenoid/valve body imperfections.

I swear it's like luck of the draw. You get a really sweet good performing 10R80, or a dud, and then anything in between.

I've had 4 good ones in a row over the last 7 years. And the family fleet has 3 more 10r80's and 4 6R80's. One 6R80 needed to be rebuilt at about 125,000 miles, but it's doing fine now at 190,000.

I know the 13th gen F-150 has CDF drum issues and TSB issued. Does anyone know if the 2021+ F-150 10R80 has the updated CDF drum installed from the factory?

Nope. They only started fixing the issue in mid year 2023 as I understand it. It's crazy to think they were aware of the issue at least in some capacity for like 3 years/6+ build increments.

Here is a long thread on the other forum about this issue in 13th gen trucks. Original poster, I would give it a read. Also the last two pages of that TSB I linked above has the repair procedure including lots of programming steps for dealer techs to try before replacing the physical parts. Maybe you will get lucky and your issue goes away with programming...

honestly, this is a design issue and I hope the design gets updated with proper parts rather than software bandaids.
