Great for anyone that racked up 40 - 50k miles on the truck without any issue. Get a new engine.

Seems to me these metal shavings would have been found at the first oil changes. My dad taught me to put a magnet into the drain bucket when doing oil changes. There is something very wrong with this story.

A ton of info on Toyota forums about this.
The Toyota release is a bit misleading. The material is from a poor design and improper clearances. It’s not from machining material being left in the engine at assembly.

Yup. The first clue this was the case was when these engines made in both the US and Japanese plants were failing. Japanese factory Toyotas are highly prized in the Toyota world because it's famously one of the most tightly run ships in the world for vehicle production. So if that factory is making engines that blow up, it's almost certainly a design issue and not a manufacturing one.

That would make more sense but poor design and especially improper clearances should signal trouble very early in the engine running.

Where are all the Blackstone reports... "This engine is still wearing more than we expect for 25k miles, but the oil is still good, report back after 5k miles." lol

I'm confident Toyota will do what is right for the truck owners and the great Toyota reputation. That's the way they roll.
