Quick question, just installed Talons garage catalytic, transmission skid plate on my 24 powerboost.
Going to do the 1st oil change myself.
Has anyone had any issues having a dealership do an oil change with the plate installed.

Just an FYI about this. I have the Talons Cat Plate but have yet to install it. I asked 2 oil change shops (Valvoline and a local guy with his own shop) about this and they both said they would never turn away business but would have to see it to let me know the cost. A dealership may be different but then maybe they would not charge you more.

You can also check out a Fumoto valve or a Valomax valve with hoses if you want to keep everything clean. Good luck.

Had oil changed twice now at the dealer since I installed mine.
No issues so far.

I have the Talon Skid plate with cat guards, just the middle piece...

It's easier to change the oil on an FX4 with talons plate as the dealer (or you!) will not have to take off the whole "semi rigid" assembly. Talon as you know has just a four bolt access panel, I have added the Fumoto quick drain oil valve which drops straight down, so no drain tube needed..

Thanks, personally, I would rather change my own oil but don't know if there would be a warranty issue

I have never had a dealer successfully re-install all of the bolts to adequate torque (i.e. sufficient to keep them from rattling out and vanishing). My very strong advice is that you get a Fumoto valve AND replace the hex key bolts on the Talon skid plate with hex head bolts. You can get the oil changed faster than driving to and from a Quicky Lube using components that Amazon will ship to your doorstep for cheaper than O'Reillys and much cheaper than a dealer You can install an oil filter with the correct torque AND use a filter that isn't designed to be a slippery as possible.

I will never belittle someone for trading some money for time and/or convenience, but with oil changes you are losing time, losing money and gaining VERY little convenience unless it is physically very difficult for you to get under the truck. For folks with cars and no lift, I think going to a dealer makes more sense as jacking the car up or simple stands adds considerably to the time investment, but for trucks on 33" tires I think that DIY wins pretty much every category.

Different but similar….

I had full skids on my Jeep which I installed myself. There was a recall and the skid had to be removed to do the recall. Dealer said no problem but they would charge me $200 to remove and replace the skid. I knew what was involved and it was worth it to me to pay the dealer.

I have full Talons on my RCSB. I removed the second skid prior to my alignment and then reinstalled it - four screws, aluminum and easy.

I will do my own oil changes but if I were to take somewhere I would first remove the small access panel. Again, only four screws.

Retired and not looking. I am driving the wife crazy.
The problem with someone else doing an oil change is that it is a part time high school kid whether jiffy or Ford. I have a lift and have done my own now for50 years. If I screw it up it is on me.

When I had the oil changed at 1k miles breakin, had the valvomax oil drain valve installed, will make oil changes a breeze.
