I have a 2022 F150 XLT purchased used. But ready for first oil change. I am coming from a 25+ year old vehicle, that I would change myself or just run into Valvoline to have changed.

Since this is a newer vehicle, still under warranty, do I have to have the oil change complete by the dealership. If not, is there an advantage of doing it from the dealership. Or anyone have experience just having my normal Walmarts, Valvoline service centers completing this. Will this void anytime of warranty?

Sorry is this appears rather ignorant to the process.. but I am and looking for some advice. Thanks so much...

I would purchase yourself six quarts of full synthetic oil and a FL500S filter and do it yourself. You can log the oil change in Ford Pass and upload receipts. Doing yourself or having someone else do it, will not affect your warranty.

Please don't go to Walmart for oil changes! Do it yourself, that way you know for sure it's done right! As mentioned before, log in your info to fordpass and everything is good. Too many horror stories from Walmart service center.

I just really just dont think I have the a good setup to even attempt to do this myself - or I would do that. No garage, equipment, etc.

When I lived in an apartment for a few years recently, I would source all the components (oil/filter) and would go to the local valvoline quick-change place, and just hand them the parts to use. I paid them about $25 for labor. You should ask them in advance if they will do this, and keep asking around until you find someone that will do so. No reason not to control what goes into your truck.

I would argue you have the easiest engine to do an oil change on. Your oil drain plug is a plastic locking plug that can control the oil drain speed. No need to torque it down when re-installing. Your oil filter is right on top of the engine and doesn't spill when opened. Lastly, the truck doesn't need ramps to get underneath it.

I've change my oil in the driveway in the summer and winter with minimal tools. You'll need an FL2062 filter (or the same filter from NAPA marked 100050), 6 quarts of oil (I use Kirkland 5W30), a wrench to open the oil filter, and a pick to get the o-rings changed on your filter cartridge.

Something to consider is that the 2.7L will take somewhere near 30 minutes to completely drain of oil. Most dealerships and shops won't wait that long. They'll just throw 6 quarts in and now you're overfilled.

This is the video I used to get up to speed on the 2.7L.

You don't need any special equipment or a garage to do the oil. You don't even need to jack up the vehicle. Get a good drain pan and crawl under there. The video tells you how to do it.

Save/upload receipts, record the date somewhere if you don't have the app, there's your proof!

Do it yourself if you can. I bought a 2021 GMC and they gave me the first 2 changes for free. Fast forward first change at 3000 miles went to dealership in the morning and Picked up after work so no rush on there part drove home 7 miles parked in shop went out next morning found oil on floor under truck thought to myself they can't even wipe thing up good when there done but it was to much oil for that. grab creeper rolled under to find the oil filter only screwed 3/4 way on. Never again if I can do it myself. If you can't do it yourself always check everything before you leave or soon after like in the parking lot after pulling away.

Take it to an Indy shop if you need... I have my buddy who owns a shop do mine. It's not worth my time doing it myself.
