So ever since a bought my Tremor running it in 4A or 4HI the steering would feel very heavy. I put it into 4A the other day as it was icy out. As I slowed down there was a loud clunk. It happened 2 more times on the way home. foot off the gas and brake just rolling forward, and clunk. I put back in 2WD and it drove normal again. I put it in 4A this week and the steering felt almost identical to 2WD. I was concerned maybe it wasn't actualy going into 4A. I took the truck out and verified both 4A and 4HI where functioning. I have the torsen limited slip front diff, and am unsure if something was frozen up before and now it is good, or is something wrong now and before it was good. Any ideas on this would be greatly apprecited.

Sounds to me like the transfer case wasn't fully in gear. The clunk could have been the gears finishing the drop in process... Speculation to be sure, but at least hopeful. :)

Take it out and get it warmed up, be ready on getting home and take an oil sample. See if that tells you anything.

Do you regularly exercise the 4WD system? You have EIWEs and should regularly engage 4A to exercise the wheel ends. All 4WDs should do this. In colder temps the truck will cycle them automatically periodically. It's about time to see some growling front end posts.

Thanks for the feedback. We are back to the snowy weather and I have been in both 4A and 4Hi with no issues all week.

I maybe in the minority here but I like the feel of the steering in 4A. It’s has some nice weight to it.
