Stock Running Boards Confusion

what is the factor(s) that determine which boards (5” vs 6” w/ FORD) get put on which trims/packages? I feel like I’ve seen these two styles all over the place with no rhyme or reason. Any ideas??

I’ve only ever seen the 5” running boards on F150s.

I have the 6" w/Ford on my 24 Lariat.

My 23 and 25 Platinum boards look totally different from this. The lines are straight from end to end. The 23 at kick to open button which was removed for the 25.

that makes sense. Most of the 21+ F150s I see around here are XLT with the same 5” boards that mine has…or they’re a higher trim with the retracting boards.

the lariat is the only trim i can think of that is equipped with the 6 inch width running boards. king ranch and platinum come standard with powered running boards i’m pretty sure.

With that said, when I was shopping for my 2025 PowerBoost, I noticed that the XLT's (1st image) have the shorter running boards while the Lariat's (2nd image) have the longer and slightly lower running boards.

Note that the XLT and Lariat PowerBoosts pictured above both have the black appearance package, so I am thinking it is more trim level dependent.

Wish I knew how to get that black plastic pad off my chrome 6” wide running board so I could clean the chrome and put it back on.

Those are Lariat trims.
