I had an unfortunate incident the other day... the step assist pole (aka stripper pole) that accompanies the tailgate step got stuck... in the EXTENDED position! Needless to say, when that happens, you can't put the step up. Luckily, I didn't have far to drive to get home where I had some tools and could start taking it apart enough to get to the locking pin that wasn't releasing.

Anybody else run into that problem? I am now a bit hesitant to deploy the pole for fear that it might get stuck again. (Being 60+ with bad knees, the pole comes in quite handy.)

I had a pallet of sod in the bed today to break in the seal. Dirt everywhere.. The pole, step, and area between the bed/tailgate are now crunchy..

After reading that, I sound like a pavement princess.. heh

My opinion is you can never use too much lube. Keep a rag nearby.
