For any of you with both the Spray-In Liner and the tailgate work surface, is there any treatment given to the tailgate or is that skipped when you have the work surface option?

Why would you want to cover tailgate work surface with liner?

Depends on your brand of product and your installer.

I called for quotes from about four different Line-X installers. Two would coat the tailgate, two would not. The two that would not cited that it was too much of a risk to mess with all of the electronics in the new truck’s tailgate.

Thanks all, I definitely would not want to coat over the work surface, I have both options on order with Ford and just wondered how they handle it.

I ordered the spray in bed liner through Ford, they coated the tailgate but the work surface area is not treated

I think Knickel is talking about taking the work surface cover off and then spraying the tailgate and putting the cover back on. Not spraying over the plastic cover

I did Line-X and they did not do tailgate. Mine is pretty scratched up around the work surface now FWIW. It doesn’t bother me but if it would bother you might want to check around to make sure they will cover underneath/around the surface.

The photo that JerseyGlock is exactly what you get from the factory when you order both options. There's still a little bit that gets left uncoated which I'm not thrilled about.

Mine will have the work surface, I've looked at them a lot at work and at my dealer. I don't really need or want it. If I had my way, I'd replace it with factory metal piece w/spray-in liner on it, if I could. time will tell if it holds up.

Mine was done by Ford

Line X. They removed the work surface and sprayed pretty much every inside except the power tailgate motor. Much better than having exposed paint on the tailgate

Line-X wraps around the edges and does the entire tailgate (except work surface). Even did a great job removing everything in the bed.

My local installer sprayed the tailgate "around" the factory worksurface (like a lot of the above photos).
I'm very impressed.
