We’re seeing more builds running spray-in + drop-in together. And yeah, the first reaction is usually: “If I already paid for a spray-in, why add a drop-in—isn’t that wasting money?”

Short answer from a lot of real-world users: extra cushion, less rattle, better grip, and a sacrificial layer that keeps your spray-in from getting gouged when you chuck sharp or heavy stuff.

And we’ve been combing through pickup forums across models and the theme is consistent, check what they've said.

So here's the conclusion:
  1. Spray-ins are great and look clean, but they’re not perfect.
  2. Stacking a drop-in on top can solve specific pain points (noise, slide, impact).
Owners shared a ton of useful experiences—we figured it’s worth a proper poll here.
And...here comes our question:
If you already have a spray-in, would you add a drop-in on top?
• Yes — extra protection/grip is worth it
• Maybe — depends on price/fit/weight
• No — spray-in is enough
• Not sure — convince me in the comments

To make this useful and fun, we are hoping you can share your opinion down below this thread, and we are select one winner giving away 2 sets of bed mat to him/her or his/her friend from this forum

Here's the rule:
• Comment your take on spray-in + drop-in (real experience or what’s holding you back).
• @Tag one forum friend who’d have an opinion.
We’ll randomly pick one comment and send two bed mats — one to the commenter and one to the tagged friend.
• Multiple thoughtful comments = better odds, but one set max per person.

House rules

Keep it friendly, respect different setups, and skip the brand bashing. Real-world experience beats hot takes.

Dropping a few use-case screenshots below to spark ideas. Your pics welcome — especially that “one load that sold me” moment. Fire away 👇

My previous truck had a drop in liner from day one and I can say that my bed would have been batter off without a that drop in liner. It wore threw to bare metal in alot of areas and trapped moisture and debris under it. Everything slides around on the drop in liner. My F150 currently has a drop in liner and I plan to remove and get a spray on liner, maybe add a bed mat depending on how grip is with spray on liner.

My 2025 came with an OEM spray in and Ford was so lazy they skipped the tailgate completely. Pretty lame.

Spray-in with a bed mat is the way to go. I've done that on all of my trucks. Protection from the spray-in and the mat keeps everything in place while adding more protection.

I think the OP meant "spray-in + bed mat" not "drop in"- that's what the screen grabs are talking about, anyway. As @Kwhiting68 and @Ham point out above, it's not at all a bad idea to throw in a bed mat to keep things from sliding around on your spray-in.

My used 2022 came with a spray in with a retrax cover. I recently added a bedrug. I had a bedrug mat over a plastic drop-in on my last truck and liked the combo. The bedrug keeps stuff from sliding around. I used to carry mulch and rocks and other yard stuff in my old one and would pull the mat in and out as needed. I now have a landscape trailer for that stuff. I don't think I will ever need to remove the bedrug.

I have a spray-in bedliner with the Rough County bed mat on top of it. I like the bed mat as stuff does not slide around as much, and it was a cheap added layer of protection to the bed on top of the spray in.

I've had Line-X in both of my F150's (2005 & 2022) since new. I don't use a mat because I really dislike the water, dirt, and abrasive debris that inevitably accumulates under them and they're a heavy PITA to pull out and clean under.

Long ago I helped a friend remove the cracked ~8-years old drop-in liner from his 2005 F150, exposing the bed ridges that had been severely scoured by the liner over those years, so have never considered a drop-in liner on a bare bed.

In spite of rough use hauling just about everything imaginable (life on rural property maintaining horses, fencing, barns, etc) for now ~20 years in my Line-X'd 2005 F150 it remains intact with no blisters, gouges or damaged spots. Here's a glimpse of it at 18 years old

Given that experience I went with Line-X again for my 2022. Yep, I'm a fan of Line-X because it's proven robust and easy to maintain for me and nothing in my experience has ever suggested I needed another layer of protection on top of it. If stuff wants to slide on it that I don't want to slide, well, that's what tie-downs are for, no worries.

YMMV.

A $650 Linex, a cheap (4-star) Amazon bed mat, and aftermarket F150 tie-down brackets for under $ 40 is the way to go.

Absolutely, it adds protection to the spray in bed liner, so it doesn’t look like crap and it makes cleanup easier
