I have a 2017 F150 sport 4 x 4 5.0 V8 and I’m trying to get the speed governor off, my question is, is, am I able to do that with Forscan? And if so, how, I don’t wanna mess up my truck in anyway, I’ve seen a couple different threads that said I have to go 7E0-163-01 and -02 is this true? I really can’t stand being governed in a vehicle I pay for, please help.

Wrong forums, might want to go ask on a forum for the 13th gen trucks.

There will be a governing mechanism built in regardless. The engine is designed for a certain max rpm. Go over that routinely and eventually the engine will eat itself...

You are talking about the speed limiter built in the ECU. You canget a programmer from superchips, etc, or 5 star tuning to eliminate to top speed limiter. You cant do that through FORSCAN

I guess I gotta be the old man now to say why would you need to go more than 105? (Unless you’re running from the po-po)? mind you this comes from a semi truck driver that absolutely hates when I have to drive a governed truck. That said as long as it goes 75ish I’m happy. At least I can go the speed limit. But my personal truck I’ve had it up to 90 a couple of times passing on the freeway and having a little fun with the rocket ship that the PB is but yeah I don’t have any need to be over 100. ??

A few years back, by a mechanic, it was explained to me that the reason for the 105 speed governor is because truck tires are only rated for 105 MPH by the manufacture. Again the lawyers are involved.

I wouldn’t set my limiter higher than the tire speed rating if I were you. There is a good reason tires have speed ratings on them… too much heat (from exceeding the tire speed spec) can cause a blowout. That would be absolutely catastrophic at those speeds.

Certainly there is a factor safety built into that, and it’s highly unlikely that exceeding the tire rating for a second or two will cause failure, but I don’t know how long it would last over the rated speed

If you do get the governor removed, it would be very prudent to get higher speed rated tires! As others have written, the engine should be capable of higher speeds without any damage..

It limits your max speed to 105 mph
I understand that...I was asking OP what is the speed limiter in his truck. Mine seems to be 95mph! I did a few test hits in Mexico to get the 1/4 mile time and I bumped into the limiter (at 95mph) before the 1/4 stripe. I was just curious whether the speed limiter is different for every truck depending on the tires it has or why is there variation?

FYI...my tires are rated to 106mph so I am okay.

I have had mine up to 170 KM.... ( 105.6359 MPH, Google conversion) only 'cause it got there so dam quick, didn't have time to pull the foot out of it.....That is my story and I am sticking to it. I usually told the wife I was blowing out the carbon, but that was when we lived in the city, country people now, always on the highway.:ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO:

Wow so you “allegedly” hit the speed limiter. I’ve also used that excuse blowing out carbon. Still get yelled at. But it sure is fun! ??
