@SoundsGoodStereo How many tiles did you end up installing in the front doors? I purchased two of the 40 packs from you in addition to the front and rear block off plates as well as some other items and I want to ensure the best sound possible with what I have.

With two 40 packs, use 30 per front door and 10 per rear door.

How much weight will be added to the doors? Is all that sound insulation really going to change the sound characteristics of the truck that much? Couldn’t the same result be achieved using strips In certain locations?

Yes, Adding sound deadening like SGS show in the video will make a big difference in the interior noise levels and even make the factory speakers sound better. My truck was already fairly quiet however it’s much more quiet now.

I have some sound deadening pictures on my build thread here:

Each door uses around 11 lbs of material to fully coat it like the video. The difference is pretty dramatic, and yes, you could try a smaller amount, but it will be trial and error to figure out how much less is acceptable.

The block off plates that SGS include in this package make a really noticeable difference in the mid-bass. I did my truck with the rears first and then the fronts (just due to time availability) and having only done the rears, ALL of the mid-bass was coming from the back, which is crazy since the factory EQ rolls off lows to the rear. I do have upgraded speakers (Infinity), but adding the panels and deadening (I did not use the tiles SGS sells, so can't speak to them) made at least as much difference as getting rid of the factory speakers. I've got response graphs before and after the speakers, and will be grabbing another with the door treatments in the next few days.

It's easy to get way off into the weeds with audio stuff, but basic door dampening and the block-off plates are great bang for the buck.

I have the block off plates on all 4 doors and have significant(not 11 lbs)sound deadener material in strips in all 4 doors and the rear of the cab as well and didn’t noticeable a significant change in the acoustics in my F-150. My install was all inclusive, speakers, amps and signal processor so maybe the results of all muddied for me the sound damper covering the doors. For my install I looked for reverb while tapping on the door and was looking more for things that rattled or vibrated(old school). I might take a look at covering more of the door panel after watching the video.

My approach to deadening was similar. Listen to the resonance of panels and add deadener where I could hear an audible difference. I used about 7.5 sq. ft. per front door and about 5 sq. ft. per rear of 80mil butyl. The was an audible difference when closing an untreated vs treated door as well.

I'll be adding the DSP+amp and subwoofer soon now that the weather has gotten much warmer here in MN, but going in small steps lets me evaluate what each thing does to as it builds on the previous. Using SGS's amp plate for that was handy as I built and wired it all inside over the winter and dropped it in on Saturday (just need to finish the power supply run and put the t-harness in place at this point).

If I had not done the rear doors separately I'm not sure I would have noticed the difference as clearly. I noticed the sound stage changes right away. In rock music it sounded like the drum kit was behind me suddenly (I would not recommend doing only the rear intentionally!). The effect was less overt when I did the fronts and the sound stage moved back to a forward bias.

Probably worth noting that I have moderate to severe high frequency hearing loss (not sure I sold my soul to rock and roll, but I clearly sold my hearing), so I'm going to notice changes in the mid-range and below disproportionally compared to someone with better hearing.

I had these guys put an audio system upgrade in my 21 Platinum a couple of years ago. It was a little pricey but they did an outstanding job. I had them do the sound deadening, new amps, speakers and add a custom subwoofer they make in house that is installed behind the seat. I can't imagine anything sounding any better. Light years better than the factory B&O system. There are several videos on Youtube showing them upgrading Platinums and Raptors. And they are good guys too.

I bought the SGS behind the seat kit with all the sound deadening and block off plates. I also bought an extra package of the tiles. My doors close like vaults now. Highly recommended.
