Folks really don't like that little 2.7 twin turbo out punching its weight class. ???

I've had 2 of them. Amazing motor.
I'd have been happy with my Powerboost being built on the 2.7, honestly. Great motor. Stout internally too.

Dude, that’s literally a mile above sea level. Also, last gen 5.0 made less torque and redline was 1,000 rpm lower. A 2018-2020 5.0 doesn’t stand a lick of chance against a current 5.0, 4th gen 5.0 peak torque is at a lower rpm and peak horsepower is at a higher rpm ~ meaning a much larger band of peak power.

and don’t even get me started on the 3.5 EcoBoost changes, HO pistons and HO turbos. Some of you guys are stuck in the past lol.
That’s interesting. Good videos. Looks like Ford improved the power band for the 5.0 so there is more area under the curve.

Yup. My 5.0L has gotten 5.5 seconds reliably on 93 octane several times, I have yet to see a bone stock 2.7 even break 6 even. Then with E-85 it’s literally a 100 HP spread on stock mapping. Fords SAE certified dynoes don’t lie. Idk why people spread these falsehoods. The 2.7 is good and nothing wrong with it, but it is 100% not the fastest in the lineup.
Question, I’m assuming E85 (flex fuel) allows for more spark advance because of the higher octane rating. Are you saying that a Ford 5.0 with E85 makes 500 horsepower?

Welp, I totally forgot that I have a Dragy, and I was smart enough to remove it from my truck. Yay me.

So, for shits & giggles, I'll try to get a good 0-60 (and possibly 1/4 mile, road-permitting) time in the loaner. And compare to the stock PB tune, then the Livernois 93 octane tune; whenever I get my truck back.

Can't make any promises, but it might be fun. ?‍♂

I’m glad you didn’t get a 2.7 loaner just in case it runs really fast ?

Here's mine stock w/ tune on 34.1" (actual) LT tires w/ 6400lb total mass. Tires broke loose on launch and again before shifting. Refuses to short shift first. I've got logs of 2nd gear being called for at 3800RPM (manual mode) and the PCM refuses to shift until it winds out 1st. Not sure if that's the tune or what. Using telsa's method, that's a 4.2 second 0-60. Should toss factory wheels back on and take out all of the tools and subs. Really need a track though as the tires just roast otherwise. Need more grip!

I am sure the dealer has the 5.0 filled with cheap 87 so it’s down 20-25 HP over what is advertised on premium. These V8’s pull mad ignition timing to stop detonation on 87. I wouldn’t expect much better than 6 seconds. On 87 my scab barely breaks 6, on premium 93 it’s normally 5.5 sec.

I’m also sure you normally run 93 in your PowerBoost….so this comparison would essentially be a 5.0 in survival mode pulling timing off at wide open throttle vs a PowerBoost on ideal fuel. Not exactly going to be an unbiased comparison, but I’d expect the 0-60 in the PB to be low 5’s regardless.

Nah, right around 420 crank hp on ethanol with stock file

2.7 is being intentionally nerfed.....until one day it is reborn as Hybrid getting 30mpg and making 450hp. the end all be all! The phoenix will rise!

I'm not sure if there were some hot 2.7 tuned trucks but a couple of reviewers got great times with them a long time ago. Like 3 of the 100 reviews over the years. Then the purchasers of the 2.7 trucks turned it to gospel that a bare bones 2.7 truck beat a heavier optioned 5.0 at altitude and it must be faster. Not even factoring in Ford kept adding power to the other trucks.

It's a great engine. But some think it beats every other Ford powertrain in every category.

Around here the difference between 87-octane and 93-octane is $1.50 per gallon. That adds up quickly when you drive 100 miles a day ?

I wonder if the advertised power Ford puts out is using 87-octane.

Ford tried that in the 3.0 PHEV Aviator and no one bought one unfortunately.

“Grand Touring and Grand Touring Black Label models use a plug-in hybrid powertrain based on the V6 engine (494 hp, 630 lb-ft).”

I mean I can see why an Aviator doesn't sell, at least in the volume to justify keeping it.

But I cant imagine a world where the 2.7 being even more efficient and powerful doesn't make it a great buy.

The 3.0 should be their best engine, it's basically a bigger 2.7 with bigger turbos (I believe). They dropped the port injection and I bet the turbos are still smaller than the 3.5s because it just doesn't perform like the F150 engines.

Doesn't help they are connecting it to the 10r60 in most applications too. I really wanted an Explorer ST but there were just too many questionable decisions on them.

The PFDI system on the F-150 is huge. Ford only puts the dual fuel delivery in the 2.7 EB, 5.0 V8, and 3.5 EB engines. The rest of the lineup is DI or PI only. The 1.5L I3, 2.3 EB, 3.0 EB are all DI only and the 7.3 V8 is PI only.

The PI was added to 2.7 and 3.5 for low end fuel atomization and valve washing. The DI was added to the 5.0 so it can run higher compression without knock so these 3 sort of met in the middle with dual fuel. Everything else is single fuel.
