The prep adds a dedicated switch to temporarily turn off nonessential features to provide enough power for the plow. It also adds a hot tap wire for the plow controller (by drives side knee). Having it isn't going to hurt anything, but you're still going to run the wire to the light bar, run the natural, and add a switch somewhere. So you're not gaining anything by having it either...
Around here, the plow shops will not install new plows on vehicles that do not have the plow snow prep package.

Its a liability issue for them. First thing they ask when you are discussing which plow for F150.

Hey... I live in a Redwood Forest so I "feel your pain".

But when I'm out in the wide open, I'm VERY unimpressed with Satellite Radio.

The "rewind" function is cool but the audio quality is so shitty... why would you want to rewind that crap?!!

I really had high hopes for Satellite Radio and was looking forward to subscribing.

But there's NO WAY I'll be paying to listen to THAT!

Plus... I have my Music Library via USB. I have Android with the Power Amp App with an 11 band EQ that I dialed in for my stock XLT sound system. It sounds GREAT!
How much did that app cost?

$10.00 (when I got it, it might be more now) and it has a powerful 11 band graphic EQ that you can set to be used when in BlueTooth mode, Headphone mode etc...
You can even set it "per song, per album, per playlist" which is handy since not all digital downloads offer the same audio response.

Of course it has “playlists”, album, song and artist search as well.
I’ve been pretty impressed with it and I used to run sound boards in night clubs and recording studios so “I think” I have a pretty good ear for audio quality.

I too live 10 miles from civilization.
But between me and civilization is a twisty, mountain road and not having to reach for my High Beam switch while negotiating a curve is handy.

What ever happened to the good old days when your high beam switch was a foot switch?!!
It’s still a foot switch on my olds!

50 years and counting and the original still works…

Also worth noting... I have a RCSB which seems to be a totally different animal. A "unicorn" you might say!

Maybe the Ford engineers decided that NOBODY would be crazy enough to mount a Snow Plow on the front of a RCSB so they figured I'd be better off with a Hill Decent switch.

And they might be right!

The Hill Decent worked GREAT when I was driving down the mountain on my "maiden off road trip".

Pretty much just let the truck drive itself while focusing on avoiding ruts & boulders.

Also.. the "Features" they turn off to power the Snow Plow AREN'T AVAILABLE on a RCSB anyway.

So that might have something to do with it.

"Yeah, okay dummy... you want to put a friggin Snow Plow on your little tiny F150? Get your stylus out and start punching your touch screen"!
The only one I saw was the fog lights are turned off. Also engages some relay circuit for plow harness as well.

It's hard to say because they changed it quite a bit after the July 7th builds. I wasn’t expecting a change this major until 2022.

But not a big deal, for “me”. For $50.00 I’m satisfied with another box checked for resale value.

I'm sure the information is available somewhere but since the switch is gone and I never had any intention of attaching a snow plow anyway I’m not interested enough to research it.

Anyone get any actual part numbers to confirm alternator, battery, spring rates with the snow plow option? (XLT model specific)

Seen anything posted with anyone who’s utilized that button and wiring that we all paid up for?

The info below was from a link somebody provided earlier in this thread specific 2015’s and up.

One cool item. There is no auto air damn installed with snow plow prep.

Nice.

Also for info purposes.

Truck built on 7/13/22.
I have a button for snow plow mode. Not an option on screen.

In October 2021 I took a new on the lot 2021 Ford F150 XLT 8 cyl to the Western Plow dealer to make sure a plow could be mounted. They took info and vin. Yup I'm AOK. Bought the truck. Left the truck and went on a hunting trip. Came back got "OOPS we made a mistake. Can't mount the plow due to LED lights and no wiring harness for that vehicle. One year later Western builds the wiring harness but now the dealer tells me they won't install the plow due to no plow prep package. So now I have a 4,000 mile 2021 Ford and a 1/4 mile driveway and no ability to plow. Now I have to sell the truck and reorder a new 2023 the way it should have been built. Expensive mistake and I'm really upset because I did my due diligence. Hope this info might help others.

I can't believe a $50 optional plow prep package can't be installed after the build. Is a f150 going to be totaled if it has a dash fire and the plow prep wiring harness can't be replaced. It's probably a computer download anyway. I've called the dealer and Ford Motor Company and can't get a answer. Any Ford persons know someone at Ford who can help me. Or anyone know what part numbers I need to add this function? This makes no sense.

Might want to check and see if the plow prep package removes the active air dam on the front.

Please post your findings? I bought mine off the lot and might want to upgrade if its doable.

Can definitely say that mine with plow prep does not have an active air dam
