I ordered my Antimatter Blue Supercrew Lariat 4WD, Max Tow Package. I added the Snow Plow Prep package for $50 thinking it would be a clean way to have power for LED light bar. Thoughts? Thanks.

The prep adds a dedicated switch to temporarily turn off nonessential features to provide enough power for the plow. It also adds a hot tap wire for the plow controller (by drives side knee). Having it isn't going to hurt anything, but you're still going to run the wire to the light bar, run the natural, and add a switch somewhere. So you're not gaining anything by having it either...

I just received word on my 10/29 order that my XLT is delayed because of the snow plow prep package.

You don't get a "dedicated switch" anymore.

That's one of the changes after the July 7th builds.

NOW... it's a touch screen menu option and the Snow Plow switch has been replaced by the Hill Decent switch (which works very well BTW!)

However... it ALSO adds a high output alternator and beefed up front suspension to handle the additional electrical draw & weight of a Snow Plow.

So for $50.00... you'd be crazy NOT to get it!

Good info. Thanks. I assumed the beefier suspension was likely. Good to hear.

Yeah... I had "big plans" to wire some blinding front lighting to my Snow Plow switch but now I'll be wiring a relay to my high beams for my blinding lights instead.

And another relay to my "wannabe" stock "Fog Lights" for some REAL fog lights.

No biggie.... I was going to be "wiring" anyway. Now I'll just be wiring differently.

Honestly... it'll be way more convinent to use anyway.

Plus... the "automatic high beams" feature is just awesome! I find myself forgetting to turn off my high beams in my car now because I'm so used to my F150 doing it for me.

...ooops! sorry

This feature had me annoyed big time in the first ten minutes.
First item I deactivated as soon a I got to my destination on my first work commute.
I only use high beams on desolate freeways or highways once I am well out of town—-and I live 10 miles away from civilization

I too live 10 miles from civilization.
But between me and civilization is a twisty, mountain road and not having to reach for my High Beam switch while negotiating a curve is handy.

What ever happened to the good old days when your high beam switch was a foot switch?!!

Do you know where the info can be found regarding the " high output alternator and beefed up front suspension"?

Below is what I found showing for the 2021 snow plow option on the F-150 "build your own".

Available on XL, XLT and LARIAT - Regular, SuperCab and SuperCrew® (5.5', 6.5' and 8.0' boxes)

Requires:
• 4x4
• 5.0L V8 Engine
• Rear-window, Fixed Privacy Glass with Defroster - XL Only

Includes:
• Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly (ESOF) Replaces Standard 2-Speed Automatic 4WD (LARIAT Only)
• "Snow Plow" Mode Button on Instrument Panel Will Disable (load shed) the Following Features to Maintain Required Electrical Charge Margins During Plow Operation / Use: Onboard - 400W, Fog Lamps, Heated Steering Wheel, Heated Front/Rear -seats, and Massaging Seats.
• Snow Plow Mode Button also Activates Relay to Snow Plow Controls

I looked into it a little before ordering. My understanding was the ESOF transfer case didn’t have a 4A position. Just 2H, 4H, and 4L. The 4A position is very handy. The description was a little confusing to me until I searched ESOF.

As far as the suspension and alternator goes.. I read it somewhere in "Ford" specs. I'll try to find it again but I'll be going into the dealership for my 1st oil change next week so I'll get part numbers from the Service Dept for the alternator and front suspension for more detail and post them.

But... it kinda makes sense if you think about it. If they're deactivating features to add amperage for the plow, a high output alternator would be a "no brainier". And the weight and stress of a snow plow...
It just seems kind of odd that they would add those upgrades for a measly fifty bucks!

As far as the "switch" goes... I posted a picture from my truck so that kind of speaks for itself.

Yeah that’s quite a bit for $50.

FYI: The snow plow prep for the F-250 build your own module does show the following options you mentioned for $250.

The Snow Plow Prep Package is Available on all Super Duty 4x4 models:
Includes:
• Computer selected springs for snowplow application
• 200 Amp Alternator

Not available with:
• Tremor Off-Road Package
• Heavy-Service Front Suspension Package

Options Available:
• 240 Amp Alternator with 6.2L Gas Engine

I got the RCSB w/5.0 so it IS the Unicorn. It's quite possible that a Land Yacht with a Turbo Charged V6 might have different options. Like a "switch" on the dash...

Does anyone have a XLT 4-door, King Ranch, Lariat or Platinum built after July 7th with a Snow Plow Switch on their dash?

I would be interested to know.

What type of notification exactly did you get? (ie; Ford corporate email?)

Yeah, you're getting the Super Duty package confused with the F150. It doesnt come with all of that. They dont really want you doing any "real" plowing with an 150. Resi driveways type of thing... It can only handle a small plow anyways - with the 'package.'
