Should I Buy a 24 F-150?

I am a potential new F150 owner. I have always owned Toyotas, but after this 22 Tundra rollout and the issues they are facing, I refuse to buy a Tundra.

I am currently looking and have offers on a 24 XLT 4WD with the 5.0 V8. I plan on purchasing the Ford Protect warranty too.

I have seen people complain about transmission issues and was wondering if any of this was fixed in the 24s. I have always had very reliable trucks and I do not want to have transmission issues on a truck with low miles.

Anything I should know or consider before purchasing? Should I wait until later in the summer or fall to purchase?

I am all ears and am ready to listen to everything y'all have to say.

My 2022 F-150 has been nothing but problems and FORD is of no help at all. I would never consider buying another one. Only 30K in and have had more issues with this POS than all my other rigs I've ever owned combined. Brakes, heat exchanger, transmission, wiper motors, alternator, A/C, turbos, vibration, to name a few. Have literally had my CEL on for probably 5-10K of those miles and have had to bring it to the dealer 20 times.

I couldn't imagine wanting to go from Toyota to Ford.

National Superbike the much lower cost and payment of the 2×2 XL RCSB at Granger's price ( apox $36K +TTT) is the biggest reason I think it will sell especially well this year. Between much higher interest rates and a economy that is in distress plus record inflation I felt and still do that many more folks will look at that configuration purely from a cost/payment standpoint and decide they don't really need that backseat and let's just say.. unnecessary options.. like a heated steering wheel or seat in higher priced trucks and trims.
As I researched all new vehicles to replace my older Honda the CHEAPEST new F-150 started to look better and better from a purely 'value' standpoint. It didn't hurt that this year's list of standard equipment was exactly what was important for my needs and wants in a truck/vehicle. 5.0 for fun factor,lots of standard safety tech, tilt cruise power windows and locks LED headlights rear locker (2×2) and even a tow hitch! I started a few threads to get feedback about the regular cab and four wheel drive and finally sent in a deposit to Chip. It still seems kinda surprising to me that SO MANY people can afford to spend double what I'm paying for mine..But I haven't bought new since 2015. Just how much can the average family today pay for a truck payment? $1,200.00 $1,500.00?? More?

It will be nice when Ford finally gets rid of all the 23's... I mean it's only June, lol. Once the 23's are gone, the resale will actually go up since there won't be tons of trucks out there selling for 10-15k under MSRP. But, crazy high sticker and high interest rates will continue to keep the average Joe from buying. 1000/mo payments used to be house mortgages and I really wonder how long it can last.

Sorry to burst your bubble, 2024 150 Lariats were $10K off this past weekend here in North TX. With all the Job 1 F150s getting finished with their "Quality Checks" and are now being shipped to dealers (test drove a Job 1 F150 last week). Plus, with the new Job 2 production coming off the production line, I expect there will be 200,000+ F150s hitting dealer lots in the next 60 days (if supply chain constraints don't take a hit on the production numbers).

It could surpass the 2023 overstock situation we just saw.

Plenty to geek out about! I geeked out for the first year of ownership. A few revisions to gen 4 from this document, CMCV was removed and replaced with a larger throttle body and larger intake runner plenums for more airflow. The cam lobe lift was also slightly reduced. Everything else is correct here though, as a gen 4 is mainly a refresh of gen 3 with some improvements. (Stronger oil pump, new pistons/rings to better work with PTWA liners, new larger intake manifold and throttle body). The reduction in cam lift helps low end torque but generally hurts top end power, the TB/Intake Manifold improvements were likely used to combat this and are why horsepower rose even with the less cam lift.

When ordering a 5.0, with trailer tow the vehicle gets the 3.73 gear at no additional charge with the towing package.

Going 5.0 max tow. Up charge for max tow, up charge for 3.73 gearing, up charge for 20" tires and wheels. Well over 2K in extra costs.

Personally like the 302a option, 5.0, towing, 3.73 gearing, bed utility package, column shift, mobile office package. Bose 8 speaker option in the 303a is not worth it. With the column shift the mobile office package does not cover the shifter and has many more uses.

Above is the replacement if needed for the present 22 2.7EB payload package truck that Ford has dropped from the XLT line up.

I purchased a 2024 F150 EcoBoost King Ranch at the end of April after having battery issues with a new 2023 F150 POWERBoost. The Powerboost was a good truck, but Ford has not resolved some issues with the draw on the battery, and if you drive short distances to work like I do you will start getting shut-down messages because the battery doesn't charge. I wasn't willing to keep a $70,000+ vehicle on a trickle charger. Service department did not seem fond of the Powerboost either. Anyway, the 2024 EcoBoost has a few features not available on the 2023 Powerboost, and so far I've had zero battery issues. Love the truck.

I owned two Tundras before buying my first F150 (and really my first American branded vehicle in my adult life) last year.

I really tried to buy a 3rd Tundra, but...

• My dealership would not give me a firm price. Just said that it would be over MSRP
• I couldn't order a truck, and my dealership said that if they could find one, it would come with several thousand dollars of upgrades that I did not want. I wanted a Limited with zero other options but was told that it was impossible to get one like that...that from the factory they already installed 2-3 options (again, that I didn't want).
• It was a first year for a Turbo V6 in the Tundra

After that debacle, I found this site and found out about Granger (at the time doing deals at 3% UNDER INVOICE....now it's up to 4%), and found out that the Tremor was now being offered with a V8. I figured it was a sign....so in August 2022 I ordered a 2023 V8 Tremor, which arrived in Feb of 2023.

After a year of ownership, I LOVE the truck. I did buy the ESP, and am still sort of holding my breath regarding reliability, issues, etc. In terms of the transmission, while I have had zero issues, it is rough shifting at times.....most notable for me is when slowing down, and it does come clunky downshifting.

Other than that, the only other issue is the auto up feature on the windows taking a crap once in a while. It's easy enough to reset, but why in 2023 Ford hasn't nailed down auto up windows is crazy.

That’s not been the case for me. I never hold the button for anything close to 10 seconds. I operate the windows as I have in lots of other cars that I’ve owned that had zero issues with auto up/down. But routinely, one of my windows (more often the passenger) will roll up and do the “bounce back”. Typically, the system will allow another bounce back before disabling the auto up feature. My guess is maybe it’s a somewhat tight fit and it’s tripping some sort of safety measure. Who knows. But I know two things…..

1). It’s never happened in any other cars I’ve owed that have/had auto up feature.

2). It’s easy enough to reset.

I have heard no rumors regarding mechanical changes for MY25. I would presume, based on historical data, that no major changes will be made until the next major refresh.

or even later. I expect a repeat of this last spring where there were 10s of thousands F150s still on the dealers' lots when the 2025s arrive.
