To keep it short, I'm looking for a used 2023-2025 or 2015-2017 Lariat 502A. I had no plans to purchase a new truck anytime soon, but some drunk yahoooo had other plans, see photo below. I have found a pretty good prospect, but the truck lived its first 2 years of life in Ontario, CA. I had the dealer ship send me over photos today, and it definitely has more rust than my 2016 F150 that I am replacing. I usually don't have to worry about rust, as I'm in the sunny lands of Arizona, so I figured I would ask here to get opinions from people who do live in the rust belt.

Convince the dealer that is horrible rust and get another $1000 off the price. Then never worry about it again.

I purchased my '21 lightly used (8K miles) from a Northern state and it has what I considered a lot of rust to my TX eyes. I ended up power washing underneath then getting some chemical and lying under there for 20 minutes painting the rust neutralizer on pretty much everything.
It's totally fine and I intend to keep my truck many many years.

Thats just the free rust package they send from the factory. My past three trucks 18, 21, 23 have all looked like that when new.
I was about to say the same! New trucks comes like this if not worse. Still wouldn’t buy given it was in CAN and exposed to a lot of salt.

Why buy a rusted Canadian truck at all? Just hold out for something you don’t have reservations about. Me I would not buy it.
Exactly this. I do undercoating on the side in New England. You live in an area where there is none, wait for the right one and get another truck from there. Everyone here is correct, it's minor. But that's where you can see it. Inside the frame and other places will be the issue. Once rust starts you can slow it down a lot but why bother fighting it when you live in AZ. Good luck.

I have a 23 in Ontario Canada and I can assure you what you have shown is of no concern. All of it is surface rust and many of these trucks even in US in warmer zones display the same surface rust on the untreated steel. I wouldn't personally purchase a car from a country I don't reside in unless it is a collectable car or I am getting a really good deal for it. I think I also read it has switched hands 4 times. For a 23 I find that extreme. Hope this help.

over 50k is a lot too. I know its an XLT but damn, a new STX is less than that new.

I appreciate the feedback. Im going to see if they would do it for me. On another note do you think 52k otd on this rig would be a decent deal shipped to me. I usually invest in months of market research before I pull the trigger and usually get a vehicle private party to save sales tax. Since im under the gun on this one I can't afford that luxury.
Personally, I wouldn’t have it shipped. But was seriously interested in buying it. I would go out and see it in person and drive it back. But, I’ve been screwed two or three times on buying vehicle site on scene. Pictures can hide quite a bit of stuff.

Thanks, I thought that was weird too. Unfortunately I'm not afforded the luxury of waiting for the right truck local since I currently try dont have an operating vehicle. After further research it seems like a tactic Canadian dealers do with used trucks to sell to the US for cheaper. They basically make multiple owners and some of the owners are from a 30 day waiting period to reenter the us. They do this to lower the cost but dealers in the US can buy them cheaper for multiple owners and for the dollar exchange. In the end both dealerships get a win win and the customer gets a truck with Lower resell value due to multiple owners and Canadian window stickers. I, myself plan on keeping the truck for 10 plus years so im not as concerned with the resell value.

Go for it! It seems you have done your research and as I said before, the surface rust is not an issue.

My 23 came from Ontario after a 1 year lease. Personally looking back id do it again in a second. I got a very good deal on a xlt loaded that's darn near a Lariat (way nicer and more equipped than my two Lariats I did own, minues leather seats. Xlt has leather everything else too). Here's the big one. If your looking for a used ecoboost i personally will not buy a used ecoboost that has had start-stop on it. Mine never did, factory deleted because Canada. So I know my trucks never been worked and had nice hot turbos and then oil flow gets cut off. I know sone American trucks can come factory SS deleted but I think all the Canadian ones do. Anyhow same engine etc, no difference in power. Mine has same light surface rust. Im not concerned

To me that just shows, they didn't care. What else did they not care about?
