I only tried it to see if it would fit. I was in the truck one day and thought "that's about the size of a tape measure" so went and got mine and it fit! Lol.

It's actually kind of a pain to get back out though....lol

This works very well. I don't like using cupholders and prefer a magsafe charger and you'll need a magsafe case if you have the iphone.. The base is especially for our trucks. You can put it on either side but you have to start adding ram extensions so it doesn't block the sensors. This is before I ran the cable with I use small little stick on clips and it runs down to the usb plug.

If not, it uses a standard ram mount and you can add extensions, balls, etc... They have kits as well.

Or you can find the ball size you like and swap out the one that's on it. I have/had plenty ram parts/balls laying around and just adapter it. There are other companies that make ram style mounts that are not the name brand. Snoop on Amazon. I forgt the other company names.

I may have to find an adapter.. I emailed offroam after I posted and they replied stating that they have no plans to offer anything other than the current 20 mm ball. As these are machined as one piece, there is no swapping the ball on the base.

Just starting a thread here to gauge interest!

If you're like me, you find the fold-down shifter super gimmicky. Without a fold-down center console, it is completely useless to me. I usually end up throwing my phone in there, but it does not hold it in an elegant way.

Coming from my Tacoma (profile pic) where I had a very industrial system for holding phone, gps, ipad, radio, etc.. built into the dash, the f-150 is feeling like it needs something specifically designed to accomplish the task of holding my phone in a way that I like. Below is the best solution that I've found, but it eats a cupholder and it is $160. I'm designing and prototyping something that works similarly but fits into the shifter recess.

My solution will likely be SLA-printed with a black abs-like resin (no layer lines, very smooth and has uni-directional strength compared to regular 3d printing)
It will take advantage of Apple MagSafe because that is what I use, but I could easily have a different version that is more universal or specific to another mounting standard (quad lock, ram ball, etc...) if there is enough interest. I'd say 5 people committing to something specific would merit a new design.

Here's kind of a preview of where I'm at with it at the moment. I have the MagSafe portion completed and it's a perfect fit. The base needs some love because of the complex geometry of that recess:

I'll be asking $60 + shipping to start out. Let me know if you are interested!

For me... I like having that compartment closed... it's kind of like the "junk drawer" in the kitchen and I don't want to look at it. But also, I'd like the phone in a place where I can see the OBD dashboards and such.

Now... that being said... I could see someone designing a 3D printable mount that would utilize the slots for the card holder to extend the phone up a bit higher, and might allow that compartment door to close 99% of the way. I believe the light stays on in there all the time, so that would probably still annoy me.

If @Hawsa can get his mount looking nice and clean like the cup mount one in the photo, but have it use the gear shifter recess, I think that'd be a fantastic solution.

Here is an update for everyone. It's working - I don't have a great photo of it in action yet and made a few revisions that I'm waiting on a buddy to print with a different material as the one I'm using I don't think is suitable for hollow bodies (it's slightly transparent)

I didn't have the puck in at the time I took the photo, but it fits incredibly well, the base is more what needs a bit of revision. The nice thing about the cup is you can integrate active retention using the cup holder springs.
I imagine at the end of the day this will need some small foam pads on the base to provide an interference fit with the shifter recess.

I don't want a phone "charger" in my car like that (I'll just use cable as I find wireless in the car is next to useless). I do want to make a phone holder for that area using the recesses for the business car holder (which the actual card holder was only in the 2021 models)
