UPDATE: okay so as it had that screen, I noticed that it never moved. I decided to just turn the truck off. Go to bed and leave the usb in the truck. When I woke up this morning to turn on my truck I got a message that I may remove my USB. The update worked and all is right an just
! Couldnt have done it with the helpful guys in this forum.
My bad....I knocked out. It was past midnight for me the last time I messaged you. Glad it got done. You are a lot of patient than I am. After 10 minutes, I just told FDRS the update was successful and when I refreshed FDRS, the TCU update was gone from the list so I just pulled the USB out.

Would someone mind checking mine again? I've tried everything, even resetting Sync. If it is failing to download, does it give you a reason why? I'm in areas with great cell service, connect to internet at home, have auto updates on, and have updates scheduled every day at like 2am. Here's my VIN:

1FTFW1E89MFC84244
The first time it was sent to you it failed due to a "group final check failure". Most likely your GWM didn't agree with one of the files the truck was trying to download. The GWM has to "sign" off on all the files downloaded before it will allow the update to install There is nothing you or anyone else is doing wrong. Wifi or cell, auto update on or off. none of it makes a difference.

Thanks for y'alls help on these. I think I am in the same spot as lots of others stuck on 3.5.2. The website info says it has been trying to download 3.5.3 forever now. Can yall pull any extra info? 1FTFW1CD5MFA68830
3.5.3 was sent to you, but the OTA trigger expired before it was able to download the files. Just gotta wait for a retry.

Would you mind checking mine ? 1FTFW1ED3MFB23739
Same as above and many, many others.

Morning @rugedraw ..Can you take a minute and let me know where I am at? I was at 3.5.4, then got an OTA and I think it dropped me down to 3.5.3. My Sync is at 22293 Rev 610.

Thank you! So these updates are not typically pushed OTA?
https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/ota-updates-technical-info.4923/

If anyone has time, please check mine. Greatly appreciate it.

1FTFW1E87NFA92435
It shows no update history in the past 60 days, but it also shows your current status as "update downloading" and if I click release notes, it mentions 3.5.3.2 which is an obvious contradiction. My guess is, the update was sent to you and failed and PTS didn't record it properly.

Could someone please check my truck?
1FTFW1E88MKD32498
It’s at Ford Power Up 3.5.2, since last fall.
Thanks!
3.5.3 was sent to you, but the OTA expired before it was able to download the files like everyone else.

I've been reading the forums trying to understand how OTA updates work (or don't work) and how to determine what Sync version I have installed. At this point, I think I realize there is no way to find this information in the Sync user interface in the truck or using the FordPass app.

Can someone help me figure this out using my VIN?
Also, does this Sync version and build number mean anything?

VIN#1FTFW1ED2NFB56328

Sync 4 Software Version: 22082
Build 411

Thanks for any help you can provide.
I've been trying to understand how OTA's work for months and months and they only thing that makes sense about them is that nothing makes sense about them, so good luck. lol

No OTA history in your truck in the past 60 days. The last OTA your truck got was in November of last year. Because it was over 60 days ago, I can't see which update it was, but based on your Sync version, you are very behind on updates. Those older updates you need to not get pushed out very often, so you have to just wait it out.

You're at 22294 according to PTS. The OTA you got is a BCM update that you get after 3.5.4. The weird thing, I do not see you getting 3.5.4 in your OTA history, but you must have in order to get the other update. Looks like PTS glitched out recording that in your truck's history.

If he previously used FDRS to update his modules, he could have bypassed 3.5.4 entirely and went straight to OTA 1009. That’s how I did it. I never saw 3.5.4 and I got OTA 1009 a week ago after having last updated in FDRS in mid-December.

That is the confusing part. I did the updates myself back in OCT and from what was understanding, that put me to 3.5.4. I looked on Ford.ca and it show Sync ver 22294 but the truck shows different. I used FDRS and updated my truck on OCT 24th which gave me Alexa. Ford Pass shows these updates but not the ones I did in Oct. Confusing as all hell.

3.5.2 Oct 3rd
3.5.3 Jan 25th

EDIT: Just saw Jeb's reply... follow that, I did bypass 3.5.4 and did get 1009 on Feb 10th

True, but no one has touched his truck with FDRS since October of last year when the dealer replaced his TCU and ran the PMI for it. PTS shows you anytime FDRS was used and records every step and button clicked.

@Kanuck Wait, that was you? You ran a PMI on the TCU?

So @JEB was right.

My point is that 3.5.4 is obviously NOT a prerequisite to getting OTA 1009 as you suggest. I never got 3.5.4 and I did get OTA 1009. So, regardless of when he (or I) got the necessary updates, @Kanuck must have gotten what he needed via FDRS.

The replaced TCU may have been me screwing up an update and PMI it to start over. I have not had any modules replaced, that I know of.

When the OTA expires....the theory is that my truck then gets tossed back into some queue...for an undetermined amount of time...?

And, so far, there seems to be not much rhyme or reason to "how to get an update pushed to my truck". In the past, I've gotten them parked in my garage (Ford cellular? Wifi? dunno), and other times when on vacation camping (had to be Ford cellular) in another state.

Can a dealer force the truck to update?

Thank you for the info!!!

(when I say "Ford cellular" I mean the over the air that is not via WiFi. I have no idea what carrier, etc. And I don't mean having an activated Hotspot, that's different.)

You did not get 3.5.4 via OTA, so I assume you updated the TCU with FDRS to get you to the equivalent of 3.5.4. If so, did you get 1009 before or after the TCU update? I have checked a lot of trucks recently and based on what I have seen, it only comes after 3.5.4 gets installed; regardless of whether the TCU was updated OTA or FDRS. This was the case with my own truck, as well. I had zero OTA's since 3.5.2 in October and then as soon as I updated the APIM and TCU on Sunday, I got the BCM update OTA 4 days later.

Seeing as how I've gotten 3.5.3.2 and 3.5.4 in the last few days, what do I expect next OTA and what is the update going around that we do NOT want to install?
