I'll be picking up a 2022 King Ranch with the "Auto Start/Stop removal", therefore where the button to disable typically sits is a blank plate. I was wondering if I could pick up the switch from Ford (https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/electrical/switches/switch-13285875-1), put it in place, and use the Auto Start/Stop switch for something else.. possibly to trigger a relay for train horns? I see people retrofit upfitter switches or put a switch somewhere else, but I figured if it's a momentary switch, I might be able to isolate the pins that connect when the button is pushed and use that just to trigger the relay.

Thoughts of how much of a pain that would be, or if something like this has been done?

Thanks!

That's a great idea. Following to see what you do with this.

You should be able to do whatever you want with that new switch, I mean a switch is just a switch.

I was following a heated steering wheel retrofit. It involves a whole new HVAC console which i don't want. Seems you've inspired an alternative use of that blank space! ??

Have you confirmed it's a blank plate? Granted, I have a 2023, but on mine they just made the button for the other button bigger to fill the hole in the panel.

Yep, it's a blank. It took me a minute to realize what should have been there and the next truck over had the button.
What I am curious about, is if the harness is still behind there going to the plate that I might be able to use to grab the pins I need. If not, I'll have to find the harness for that button as well, which might be a little more difficult.

Look at the "Adding Hill-Descent Control" thread for the terminals needed to make your own connection.

If you use a latching relay it could also still be used to turn something on and off.

Wonder if you can remove the blank cover and use it on the switch instead of the AS/S icon.

That switch is done internally on the HVAC module, and AFAIK there is no external control outside of the HVAC button or soft button in SYNC.

it didn't even dawn on me to consider the controls couldn't be separated from the HVAC panel. Thank you very much for weighing in and saving me untold research time for something that may not even be possible. (y)(y)

Whoa, I had no idea there was an A.S.S. button on the non-hybrids. I guess it makes sense, since a lot of new vehicles have it.

So this brings another question... ... can buttons be programmed to save steps? For example, I'm going to add the trailer cam into the aux camera wires. That means I have to press the camera button, then expand the menu, then click on Aux Cam. Can a button go straight to the aux cam? I know it's not a lot of steps, but at 65 mph with a trailer in tow, every little bit helps. :geek:

Not to bring back a dead thread, but has anyone figured this out? I'd like to repurpose mine as the button for the Roush active exhaust. I don't want to order the switch if it's not possible though.

ejection seat button for passenger, oil slick or smoke screen, drop mines or launch drones, battering ram activation just to throw out a few good ideas.
