There was an article about this recall in Ford Authority this morning. It said the F-150s affected were built between Feb 12, 2020 and Feb 16. 2022. Mine was just built this Jan 25 and was on chip hold until Mar 20. The recall initially showed in my Ford account, but has now disappeared. It will be interesting to see if it was corrected while on chip hold? Awaiting delivery to the dealer - we'll see!Mine is scheduled for April 22nd so we shall see
I also got a notice in FordPass yesterday that the recall was applicable to my truck but it has disappeared now. I think mine is a 5/21 build. There was an article about this recall in Ford Authority this morning. It said the F-150s affected were built between Feb 12, 2020 and Feb 16. 2022. You got the TRM update released in February for a different issue. Your dealer probably logged into FDRS, saw an update and presumed it was the recall not knowing that there was more than one update for this module. You should go back in after the 18th to get the actual recall done. That's weird, took mine by the dealer yesterday and they updated it in about 10 minutes. I was there ordering mud flaps and asked if they could update it, they said yes. :/
It is a concern, but with some vigilance she should be ok. In my experience, failure usually occurs right after ignition. So, after each start up, manually squeeze the brake controller. If it doesn’t respond, shut down the truck completely, walk away for about 10-15 minutes, come back and try it again. Do not drive until the controller connects and responds.I also just received an email about my F150 recall: REPROGRAM INTEGRATED TRAILER RELAY. I have a question or two. My wife is currently traveling with our truck and trailer and will be gone for another month or so. I was with her for two weeks and the brakes were working fine. How concerned should I/we be about this? While on the road should she attempt to hunt down a Ford dealer and get if taken care of? Will she be okay if she tests the Integrated Trailer Brake Controller each time before she drives?
We have a ~750 mile trip coming up week after next. This is our plan until this gets fixed. Thanks! It is a concern, but with some vigilance she should be ok. While in motion, periodically push one of the gain buttons to check that the trailer brake controller is still connected. The biggest problem is not the trailer brakes failing to actuate, it’s not knowing that they are aren’t working and then trying to brake hard. If you know you have a problem, you can slow down, increase your stopping distance, get off the road and then repeat the same ignition procedure. It’s not ideal, but it is workable. But you have to keep checking.
Interesting. Paperwork even says it's for recall 22s17, which is the new recall. I'll ask when I go back to pickup my mudflaps. You got the TRM update released in February for a different issue. Really good idea. I think dealers might be inadvertently creating a serious administrative problem here. When you go in, ask them to do a network scan in FDRS sometime after the 18th. If new TRM software shows up, that’s the recall software and what they applied earlier was the February release.Interesting. Paperwork even says it's for recall 22s17, which is the new recall. A serious admin problem indeed as they mark the recall complete/finished and the potential for failure is still there.Really good idea. Go over to the ECU programming thread and ask someone to run your VIN. If a TRM software update comes up under your VIN, you’re likely in the same boat. If it doesn’t, your VIN is probably not part of the recall and then it gets a lot more challenging.I wonder how this will affect people who added the trailer brake controller themselves after they got the truck, like me.
