if expeditions have it and explorers have it, we should be able to source the parts

The front door handles are the same as the rear. Or you could buy the lightning handles. THe only obsticle would be if the BCM has teh ability or not. I have thought of this but I havent tried it.

I dotn have a for sure yes or no in this situation. It would be easy enough to test though. I have a couple extra door handles. I could try to wire them in based on the lighting diagram and see what happens.

You never cease to amaze me with your generosity of time (and likely money) to try this stuff out :)

My wife's explorer has this and I wish mine did. Her lock button is also a bit nicer as well. It's molded into the handle (little lock on the top) instead of a black square and is more responsive.
My GFs 2019 Mustang has the molded in lock button as well. It’s a LOT more responsive compared to the black square.

My 2014 fusion had intelligent rear handles...seems like this was simply a cost-cutting move. I would like to have all four on my f150 as well. I know it's a small difference, but I've already grabbed the rear handle a bunch of times only to remember I have to grab the driver's first. Annoying

Been busy, catching up now...

seems some dont exactly understand the OP's request. Yes, you can set up your settings to unlock ALL doors when you touch the drivers side door handle but thats not exactly what hes saying. yes you can open your drivers door and unlock all doors...thats not what hes saying either.

Hes asking for a smart rear door handle so you can just grab a rear handle and open a door without having to negotiate the drivers handle or key fob. i know to some that seems so ridiculous but my wifes VW is that way. you can go to any handle and it'll unlock that specific door. again, first world problems.

btw, i know in the VW world owners were able to add smart handles. trying to remember if it was just installing the handle, wiring and coding...or if the wiring was already there and it was just the handle and coding...do any current F150's come with smart handle for the rear?
Nailed it. My 2019 Range Rover Sport had all 4 handles intelligent therefore I never had to get to the driver's handle first to unlock the rear door.

The 13th gen trucks were the same way, so I'm just in the habit to touch the drivers door handle before opening the back. .

The wife's car has intelligent handles on all four doors, which does make it easier and a no brainer when wanting to put something in the back.

For what Ford is charging for these upper trims you would think all four doors would have the intelligent handles. I'd rather have the handles than Alexa.
On a platinum or limited, you'd think so. But nope.

My wife's explorer has this and I wish mine did. Her lock button is also a bit nicer as well. It's molded into the handle (little lock on the top) instead of a black square and is more responsive.

I don't know if the black square is just a carryover from the previous gen (though my 13th gen was more responsive to lock) or if there is another reason.

If anyone finds out how to do the back doors, I'd be interested. Yes I can just use the front door, but it's a lot easier to just walk up to the door. Also the kids are used to the wife's car and think they can unlock it from the back doors...LOL. I swear one day they are going to rip the handles off :)
I noticed this as well - the lock button is not as responsive as it should be. It would be nice to click it once versus pressing it. That would be way more responsive.

I can see the BCM being a hurdle for this mod - maybe something Forscan can do? I have no experience with Forscan yet but I will soon as I just recently got the USB OBD adapter.

You would be THE MAN if you have time to figure this out. Bonus points would be able to figure out how to get the lock button more responsive.

So, I looked into this quirte a bit. I am someone that thinks just about anything is doable. This unfortunetly this particular thing wouldnt be really pheasable. The reason the lightning has it is to accomidate Phone as Key. They iuse a totally differetn system then the F150 ICE. The door handles for the lightning go to the RFA. ICE F150 do not have that. I had looked into adding Phone as key on the ICE F150 and I didnt feel like dealing with it.

The BCM has no input for additional handles. As I said the lighting uses the RFA to handle it all. As those antenna have to be ready for Key of Phone. Two different systems.

That sucks, thanks for looking into it though.

My 20 Ranger had this on all 4 doors, and I still catch myself grabbing the rear handles to unlock the F150 the same way. But then I also try to unlock the doors on my wife's 2014 Santa Fe the same by just grabbing the handles only to be reminded by her "Mine is not fancy like yours.. Push the button" :cautious:

Haha. I get this from my wife about many options (she has a 2014 Honda CR-V).

Are the rear handles significantly physically different than the front?

Do you think there is room for an "analog" modification, just using another set of front handles on the rear door, parallel-wired into the front handles? I think a lock button on the rear door would be handy as well.

My guess would be there is some kind of reference voltage that would not take well to being split.

Well damn. That sucks that we can’t add extra handles.
edit: wonder if hotrodmex is on to something. Wonder if you could connect the rear parallel with the front.

Though I was just thinking about this scenario. Do the expedition door handles have the molded lock/unlock touch operation instead of that big square lock button thing?
If so, could you swap door handles at least?

I dont think this would work but I cant say for sure. Ther eis no dedicated input for the rear as I thought there was since the Lighting door handle are handled by a secondary module entirley. Also theri handles are different antenna. So I dont even think they would work on ICE trucks.

I cant say 100% that there is no way but there is no way accounted for as it stands. The BEV trucks use an entirley different Passive entry system.

Would be nice if there is a way around the technical side of things. Seems dumb that Ford does not offer this kind of feature for higher trims like Platinum and Limited as a standard.

I still catch myself grabbing the rear handle first before driver's. Might have to change my habit but that'll take some time getting used to.

I asked my salesman about this when I picked my truck up. I told him my wife’s Lexus had this feature and it was really nice. He said “well you paid for that by getting a Lexus”. Really? My Platinum was $15k more then the Lexus!

Yeah, that's ridiculous. My 2017 Lincoln MKZ has smart handles on all four doors. It cost way less than my Platinum F-150 and is 4 years older.
