Radio starts rebooting an hour into a drive. This has happened 3 different longer trips. Once it starts it is pretty consistent at 14-15 minute intervals. So every 14-15 minutes it totally reboots just like you started the truck. Highly annoying when you have navigation going or AA. Last trip it rebooted over 20 times! Anybody got any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Good morning. Would you please send over a private message with your VIN and dealer info so I can look into this radio concern on my end? Thanks!

I don't know that I'd consider it a Powerboost related issue since the APIM is used in the other configurations as well.
If it's a hardware issue, nothing but a replacement is going to fix it.
If it's software, hopefully loading a new build (if available) will get you past the problem.

Meanwhile, try something just to see if it makes a difference. Switch to dark mode if you haven't already.

Yes Powerboost
I unfortunately had to replace my 2023 Powerboost. I drive short distances to work during the week, and a design flaw in the Powerboost doesn't charge the battery enough with short distance driving. The truck began to shutdown every 10-12 days because the battery wasn't charging enough. Sidesteps stopped dropping automatically, shutdown messages on the dash. Trouble starting. Ford service knew all about it and said either drive it longer distances or keep it on a trickle charger. Buy a $75,000 truck and have to keep it on a trickle charger. Ridiculous. Drive it longer distances. Many purchase a hybrid to save gas in the city BECAUSE of short distance heavy traffic driving. Anyway, Ford will not admit it or buy it back. Their technicians say "vehicle operating within specs". Dealership sales staff of course "never heard of the issue" (despite dozens of forums complaining of same issue). Anyway, sorry to be long winded. I bought a 2024 ECOboost. Zero problems since. Good luck my friend.

If you hang around here much you'll discover that until recently the 12V charging strategy was pretty anemic on the Powerboost. And really not much better on the traditional ICE trucks as well. But if the truck is uptodate with the most recent charging strategy, it appears to be quite the improvement. Substantially more aggressive on the Powerboost, as I personally witness.

As for primarily short tripping, both the Ecoboost and the Powerboost aren't exactly a warm & fuzzy selection. Forced Induction/Direct Injection/10r80 transmission.........
.... aren't a happy ensemble when they never have the opportunity to reach intended operating temps. I guess it wouldn't be my problem for the 5year/60,000 mile portion of ownership, but they wouldn't be my choice for the long run.

Now that Ford has dropped its normally aspirated fleet motor from the mix, I guess the Coyote would be my urban/commute choice, especially if I was dead set on a 1/2 ton Ford that wasn't going to get good and hot a few times a week.

Thanks for the info, my friend. Interestingly enough, after Ford wouldn't admit the charging issue on the 2023 Powerboost, Ford has included a voltmeter on my 2024 Ecoboost. I can now watch for battery issues on screen. Why they didn't include this on the Powerboost is a mystery. So far with the same driving schedule, the battery has remained steady, and I hope that holds. And BTW, I did really enjoy my 2019 F150 with the 5.0!! Wish I had kept it,

Update: the Service manager said that he had a message from Ford , they are aware of the issue. Working on an update scheduled for 4th quarter. We can only hope. It is obviously a bad update that caused the issue. I see a few more new posters that are having the same issue.

I'll put this as bluntly as possible... Ford's programming team are utter jackasses. They couldn't find their asses with both hands, a map, and compass. With each new OTA update I'm eager to see what they fixed as well as broke.

Of all the different infotainment systems I have used over the years, Sync is the buggiest oftentimes most infuriating of all of them.

It's a love/hate thing.

You'll get used to it.
