I saw a video of someone that installed some tint on their window. It was dark on the outside and practically clear on the inside. They just listed this as "ceramic" tint from BF Films. I cant find any website about this BF Films other than all links seem to go back to a Facebook page for the Philippines.

Is all ceramic tint like this?

All the research I see about ceramic tint talks about how its better on electronics and blocking heat and UV rays, but I cant find anything that says its dark on one side and clear on the other or if this is a new type of ceramic tint.

Most dealers have this now, Ive done 3-4 cars with it. I like it better than basic tint.

So is it something special type or brand of ceramic tint you have to ask for or is this on all ceramic tint?

Only certain brands are like this.

On a side note, there's no comparison to the level of heat reduction high quality ceramic tint provides compared to standard tint. Just be aware that some cheaper brands have an haziness to them during the day. The high end nano ceramic versions are much better, with the best being Huper-Optik/Autobahn. It'll run you about 4-500 installed but it's worth every penny.

That seems to be a specific brand, I’ve never heard of it.

I've got both llumar standard tint on the F150 and ceramic on the MME. I won't be wasting money on ceramic in the future FWIW.

I have used the formula one pinnacle ceramic tint on all my previous vehicles including the F150 and love it.

Ceramic tints block UV regardless of % of visible light they allow to pass through. Metalized tints provide a very reflective surface so those outside the vehicle see themselves as though looking at a mirror. A metalized tint is more likely to attract unwanted attention from the local LEO's.

Hi Mouse51180, all though I've never had tinted windows before, I'd really like to find out more about this product. I've never liked the idea of the vehicle being dark inside, during day light hours. Please post as soon as you find out. Good luck. ?

Yeah, stay away from metalized. LEOs will let dark windows slide, but ya go dazzling people with your windows and well, you're asking for it. Plus reflective draws much more attention -- just don't.

Automotive glass already blocks ~97% of UV -- It's the IR that cooks you. I've got both the good old llumar dye and ceramic and they both perform equally as well. The F150's windshield and windows are larger, yet perform identical to the MMEs smaller windows with ceramic. Granted the MME has a glass roof (20% factory on it + 50% ceramic) so one can't really apples to apples it, but both perform above what's needed.

I have had a high-quality ceramic tint on my last 5 vehicles done by my Line-X dealer. I have all glass (front & rear doors, rear window, and twin panel) tinted in 78% which is almost clear.

I don't tint for the darker color (which I don't like at night), I tint for the heat reduction. I also use a front window shade made for my exact year and model of F150 (same for wife's Escape) since tint on front windshield is illegal here.

I can leave my twin panel shade open with the shade in the front window and the truck gets 50% as hot as it will without the tint. I took it to FL this past summer and in the keys with the window down the dash and door was too hot to put my arm on. With the window up you could touch anything and no sunburn driving to the keys and back.

That's what the ceramic tint does and doesn't look different than the factory color of the glass.

In my experience you can see out better with darker ceramic than with dyed tints. Also, the IR reduction is like 97%. I liked it so much that I recently got my wife's windshield and pano sunroof on her Edge done. I'll do all of her other windows this summer.

Yeah, windshield tint isn't legal in any state I'm aware of -- but it makes a huge difference in summer. At 50% you can't notice it visually from inside (day or night), it appears slightly darker from outside in as the entire vehicle is darker. With windows down however, it's not noticeable.

My primary reason for the tint is to reduce the glare from headlights. The substantial heat reduction in summer is a bonus.

I've got 50/20 on 2 different vehicles and the only difference between them is the color shading is ever so slightly different. The 20% dyed measures in at 21% VLT and the 25% ceramic came in at 23% VLT as measured on the same meter / same day. Optically they're the same and without a side by side comparison the color isn't noticeable and there's no difference visually w/ the 2 vehicles / doors open side by side. No difference at night either.

I've used the same tint brand for 20 years with the same setup -- 50 windshield, 20 doors. The difference between lab test on the tints doesn't translate to any real word results I've seen yet.
