To the powerboost family of the north. Should I purchase the block heater? How does the PB warm up with the hybrid?

The hybrid unit has nothing to the warm up for the truck.
If I was in the northern state or Canada certainly get the block heater

I would say it depends and to actually answer your question we need more info. For example whats the coldest temp you will see and is the truck going to be garage kept what is your typical drive? If garage kept then I would say no. Outside and you will regularly see temps below 0°f then maybe. Below 20f regularly then definitely. Or just add it and it will be there if you need it.

And technically the hybrid should warm up quicker since there is a heat exchanger on the exhaust to warm the engine coolant quicker. Does this make a differance I have no idea if it does or not.

Like others have said a block heater won't help the hybrid system at all. The battery generates enough heat when charging though that it only has a coolant loop connected to it.

One concern depending on where you live: it's been reported that the hybrid system will disable and brick the truck if the temp gets down to -40 degrees or less so a garage would be necessary if you live in one of those areas.

I live in northern Minnesota. The truck will get a heated garage at night, but I work 12 hour shifts and we do get occasional -40 days and months of -20. Thanks for the replies

I live in northern Wisconsin and wondered about this too. Truck sits in my unheated attached garage and doesn't have problems. The garage is rarely gets below 0 degrees. I don't have a block heater.
The other thing I wonder about is how the engine handles starting and immediately driving. 90% of the time when I back out of my garage the truck is in electric mode. I drive away and the ICE kicks in. In the old days, everyone started their trucks in the driveway and waited a few minutes for things to warm up.

I am on the volunteer fire department so many times I am starting and driving to the fire station in a hurry. No time to let things warm up.
Is this hurting my Powerboost engine?

I live in Alberta, Canada (hopefully the 51st State someday soon) we get -40 her in the dead of winter here, the most common winter temp is around -15 during the day and -35 ish at night. I Order my trucks with the block heater, with that said I only keep my trucks a year then trade them off, I order it for resale reasons as my trucks get exported to the States. I keep my truck in a heated garage, the garage is around 72 Degrees as I have in slab heating. On a side note, I find that having in slab heating makes my truck very warm inside, the heat radiates from the concrete slab and pools under the vehicles, even the hood it warm, I get in my truck in the morning and my floor is very warm to the touch, it's kind of neat.

I would be concerned about how well the electric part works at -40. My sis has an ev that does not work well in that kinda cold.

I always, always, always command/force start the engine when cold, summer or winter. I let it idle a good 30 seconds before putting it in gear. Does this help, IDK, but I feel better.

Just give the accelerator a press (in park) and it will start the engine. I too, would not want a stone cold engine with no oil circulating to turn on when the engine/vehicle is already under load.
