How many of you purchased your 14th gen new and didn't buy extended warranty? If you didn't what issues if any have you had and at what mileage? Playing with the odds for a 23 XL.

I have never bought a warranty on any vehicle except my recent F150 Platinum. Have a good friend who retired after 38 years as a Ford dealer mechanic. He said buy the extended warranty. He said with shop rates pushing $200/hr and all the tech stuff it is a cheap investment that he would buy and all the stuff he sees on build quality/issues.

Just picked up my 2025 King Ranch Powerboost at Granger. Like some others here, I never purchased extended warranties in the past, but for this truck I did. Some say save the money and invest it, but I see this as diversifying my investments. Like other investments, it may not pay off as much as some stocks, but I plan on keeping this truck 10 years+ and the chances that the warranty will be used are likely. Given the costs of repairs these days, and the technology in these vehicles, it could actually turn out to be a great investment! Only time will tell, but in the mean time, I like the peace of mind I get from having it.

One more first time warranty buyer. Bought a Ziegler one after people here pointed out and paid something like $1500 to extend to 8 years 100k with a $250 deductible. Given number of in warranty repairs on my 21 I’m not regretting it (most recently full transmission rebuild), but hopefully later model years are more reliable…

In recent years, especially since you can compare prices easily to get the best deal, I have basically considered extended warranties as part of the purchase price. Never used it in my 2015 F150, have not had the occasion to use it on my 21 C8 and hope to never need it on my 25 powerboost, but will be buying one.

Walnut makes a good point about the technology, but at this point, there is very little that could break on my 2021 KR PB that I could not afford to fix with the many thousands of dollars I've saved over the years by not buying rip-off extended warranties. I have 90K miles on it now after 43 months with no issues. On my former F150 Lariat EB, it would have saved me <$1500 when the seals on the coolant lines to the turbos started leaking. Not much of a deal when the warranty would have cost >$2000. My Explorer Limited before that and the F150 XLT V8 before that one had no major repairs. In the extended warranty world for all commodities, it is a rip-off. HUGE profit center.

I retired from the Ford Service Division and know first hand that extended warranties were one of the biggest moneymakers for Ford. However, for the first time I bought a 10 yr./100,000 mi./$50 deductible, plus all the other - key, lights, rental, for my '24 KR Powerboost. I don't usually keep a vehicle more than 3-4 years, but with all the technology in these new trucks, I went for it from Granger, who's price was almost half what my dealer quoted me. Because of all the price increases and content deletions Ford is undertaking, I may keep this truck longer, so it may be worth it. If you look at the yearly cost of it, it's not that bad, especially with labor and parts rates increasing higher than the inflation rate. And if I do sell before the 10 yr. coverage ends, it will be a good selling point to transfer to the new buyer. Other than the PDF file of the ESP contract from Granger and my monthly payments to BUDCO, I don't know what record Ford has in their system that I have the ESP. There is no record of it in my Ford Pass app as others have indicated for an Air Conditioning entry when they bought the ESP from Granger???

I've had the truck for 10 months now with no problems other than having to hook up a charger to the battery to top it off because updates would fail because of a low battery. I'm still unclear if when I am charging the main battery under the hood, if that also charges the Aux battery under the back seat? I don't drive it often, and it only has 4,200 miles on it after 10 months. I bought a NOCO Genius5 charger for it and installed only the leads to the battery under the hood, and will connect the charger to the NOCO lead outside the truck. Bought a 2nd wire lead for the charger, so I will be able to use it with the battery clamps for other charging needs such as my lawn tractor and ATV. Figured I would be plugging something into the truck to trickle charge, whether it was a 110 plug or the NOCO plug didn't matter, and I could double my use out of the charger. I had contacted NOCO to inquire what the difference was between the Genius5 and the GEN5X1. This was their response, note the heat issue of mounting a charger under the hood.

Thank you for contacting NOCO support.

The GEN5X1 is an on-board model of charger that only comes with eyelets to attach to the battery. These chargers are more so for marine settings and mounted onto boats as they are waterproof and don't tend to swap batteries between them often with the eyelets permanently mounted to the batteries.

The GENIUS5 is a more flexible charger and comes with clamps that can attach to the terminals of any battery for charging and have eyelets under them if you want to mount the connection to the battery. The GENIUS5 has the capability of charging 6V batteries with its 6V lead acid mode that the GEN5X1 does not have.

The GENIUS5 cannot be mounted under the hood. The GENIUS2D is the only one that can be installed under the hood and is designed for batteries up to 40Ah in size. All others must be installed elsewhere as they are not designed for the higher engine temps.

For vehicle batteries above 40Ah to up to 120Ah, we would recommend the GENIUS5. What you can do is install the GC002 1/4" eyelets or GC008 3/8" eyelets to the battery and then feed the cable through the grille. Then, when you need to charge, you can simply plug in the GENIUS5 to the cable.

I bought the Ford ESP for my 21' Ecoboost. It was $4k but I got highest coverage for another 6 years and 100k miles.

I don't usually buy a extended warranty because I am a competent mechanic with ample tools, but.... I'm also getting older and it's harder and harder to physically work on my cars, and the technology and related software can be a challenge. Not to mention the shop labor costs these days and the specialty tools that are often needed to do major repairs effectively.... It just felt like the easy button to get the warranty and let the dealer handle any problems.

I have had extended warranties on other cars, but I got them super cheap because the previous owner bought them and all I did was pay the ~$50 transfer fee to get it in my name.

I used one extended warranty on a 2013 Ecoboost F150 and it was a nightmare. The company tried to deny the claim stating I couldn't prove I did the required maintenance. I had ample proof and eventually had to go through arbitration with the BBB. I won my case and the warranty company had to pay me back for the repairs (about $4k worth). Haven't used my extended warranty on my other car yet, but again it was $50 to transfer it to me from the previous owner.
