So my truck informed me today that I had an update to install. I could have it done tomorrow night [ 08/29] at my regular time or do it now. I chose to do it now and it failed. I tried to install the update 5 times between 2:14 pm and 2:54 pm and it failed each time due to certain preconditions not being met. The truck is parked and not running, the doors are locked, the parking brake is set, the battery is on a Noco 10 amp charger, so I am not sure what preconditions have not been met. The Priority Update is 22-PU-1009-PPO-SI.
I am letting the truck do its thing tomorrow night and see if it will install then. If it doesn't , then I might run into town and sit at Dunkin' Donuts where the cell service is fantastic and try again.

@My 2ND Ford Its 4.3.4, and it is failing due to low battery SOC. It's a very common problem with this update.

Thanks, I will leave it on the Noco tender for a while. Strange that's it failing because of the battery, it's such a short update time wise . The information that you have on the screen, whose truck info is it?

Thanks, I will leave it on the Noco tender for a while. Strange that's it failing because of the battery, its such a short update time wise .
It is a short period of time the vehicle needs to be inhibited for. However, to prevent the truck from bricking itself, the GWM will not allow an update to install unless it meets OTA SOC requirements.

It is a short period of time the vehicle needs to be inhibited for. However, to prevent the truck from bricking itself, the GWM will not allow an update to install unless it meets OTA SOC requirements.
I think it's amazing that any updates install because I believe these trucks run a perpetual low state of charge. My truck sits on the charger a lot because I don't use it a lot. It can go a week between drives.

You’d think Ford would have sorted out this SoC issue by now. I could imagine few methods, ranging from being more realistic with the SoC actually required to just boosting the system SoC from the default of whatever ~80% to ~90% on the next long run once an update has downloaded, to ensure the update can run. It’s all just software, and the SoC number they’re using by default leaves plenty of headroom for a temporary excursion to a higher SoC.

I agree with you for the most part. These minor updates that require the vehicle to be inhibited for 5-10 minutes should not have such a strict SOC requirement.

However, OTA's 2.8.1 and 4.3.5 require the truck be inhibited for 2 hours, so that's a different story. Whether they can code the update packets to have different SOC requirements based on how long they take to install is beyond my scope of knowledge, but it seems possible to me.

This update failed on my truck today due to a manifest mismatch. My truck has a tune, but I confirmed with Livernois that other trucks with their tunes have gotten this update sent to it successfully and it overwrote the tune on the truck. For once, I have no complaints about an OTA failing. lol
