Powerboost Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power

Hello All,

Update on my '22 F150 platinum PB. With only 200 miles on it, it needs the Power Control Module (PCM) replaced. Ford has indicated that the item is on national back order and cannot provide a date as to when the item will be available...

You ask me, I think FORD should be supporting this item on a brand new truck that was bought and paid for prior to sending a new truck to a dealership (Non-customer order). It's been 10+ months to get the truck and over a week at the shop. Lemon law kicks in at 30 days!?!

@Dave541 - So far what i have read is that it is a PB issue. The other trucks are having some 12v battery leaks, but those all sound temporary and remedied easily at the dealerships.

That doesn't sound too bad as long as the part is available and accessible. The tech this morning told me that basically everything runs off of the Hybrid battery on the powerboost models, so if there is anything wrong with that the whole truck goes crazy.

A quick update. On Monday the dealership changed the Battery Electric Control Module. This did not solve the problem. They ordered a new hybrid battery and it was received on Friday. Still holding my breath on the repair. FYI, the dealer said their cost for the battery was $5K.

Just got my truck back from the dealer after 30 days. The replacement hybrid battery worked. A good feeling having the truck back.

Did anyone else find a solution here? Brand new Lariat Powerboost has this same issue at 500 miles. I’m in the middle of a big road trip and am in a seemingly really tough spot…

Engine runs fine but won’t kick into EV mode at this point.

What a great suggestion! I am having the same issue as the author of this thread and am in the process of debugging this myself. I just checked my fuse box and, like you, half of mine weren't fully seated. Fingers crossed it was as simple as that to fix!

I'll try and remember to post back here if I no longer get the failure to start message so others can see this as a possible solution. Certainly won't hurt to seat those fuses more!

Unfortunately not. Having had to maintain my own vehicles in my younger years, I should have started there (Start with the cheap stuff first!). I was just so frustrated and bummed that I just called the dealer. It is there now, but it would be a beautiful thing if that was the issue. Thanks for the recommendation, hopefully that may help the next sap and save them some trouble.

Good news, After two weeks at the shop waiting on the part. The Power control Module was replaced and seems to have fixed the issue. Originally, I was not provided a date by ford for the part, but contacted FORD directly to get my order from the dealership expedited. Also, I was provided a loaner by the dealership which may have put some pressure on them as well. In the end, I understand it is tough supply-chain times and overall I have been pleased with the experience despite wishing it never occurred.

Wanted to give you guys an update. I am in need of part ML3Z 11A213 B - an alternator for the auxiliary battery. Apparently mine overheated 500 miles into owning the truck. The old part number ended in an A - so the B is the updated one. You guessed it, my Ford dealer tells me it is on back order. I can only assume it is because so many have had issues with the previous generation part.
No loaners available of course. Coming from a 20 year old Lexus that I bought for 6k and sold for 6k 5 years later (with zero repairs and 150k miles) to my first big time auto purchase and having this happen 2 weeks in is craziness! Kind of regretting the Powerboost at this point… feel like we may be in for some pain…

this morning i started up my ‘22 powerboost and get the stop safely now and i was only in my driveway luckily and then i couldn’t shift it and it wouldn’t shut off. so i finally got it shut off and stepped away for 10 minutes and came back. when i started it back up it shifted into drive luckily and then it threw 2 codes. the hybrid power train malfunction/ reduced power and hybrid battery error code. also a screen popped up about my pro power on board but i forget what it said. so i parked the truck again in a spot that if i needed to get it towed then it was towable. turned off the truck and gathered my stuff up and headed for the dealership. when i started the truck messages or the yellow wrench. so on the way there the hybrid system did not kick in at all even on the downhills. although when i brakes it did say that i got a 100% from the brake coach so maybe it charged idk. so long story short it’s at the dealership and they don’t have any idea about what’s going on with it. they are going to get me a rental until they can figure it out. they even said they may need to get ford engineering involved since it only has 500 miles on it. bummer… if anybody has any insights let me know so i can tell the dealership.

I experienced the same warnings and a couple more when one recent night for some reason the truck bled down both the HV battery and both 12V batteries. It seems the truck never shut down properly and as the 12V system continued to be drawn on and the HV battery drained as well because it effectively is the alternator on these trucks.

At some point the truck protected itself when the HV battery dropped to some value that triggered a self induced deep sleep mode.

I threw a charger on the underhood battery and when it hit about 11.9V the truck woke up. I attempted to leave for work since that was enough charging to get the truck to start, but when all the warning messages popped up regarding reduced power, hybrid battery too low, ProPower being disabled..... Etc....

I turned around and went back home. Put it back on a charger and looked for codes. It had about a hundred codes. Stunning thing to see with your eyes. ?

Got the battery up to 12.7 and cleared all the codes. Started the truck in tow haul mode to force the ICE to stay on. Watched the SOC of the Hybrid battery reach 60% and cleared codes again.

Drove to work in TowHaul just to give the truck a chance to get all batteries as strong as possible.

Truck has been fine since. Even received an OTA sitting in the parking lot at work.

These trucks are NOT happy if the 12V system is below 12.3V. And so many different things can take the truck below that threshold.

I have found that it can be immediately met with eyerolls and/or a defensive attitude.
They feel way more comfortable with the customer not being informed, if you know what I mean.

I suppose it IS unfair to paint them all with the same brush, but I still would be hesitant.

In fact, I'd rather get a voltage meter myself and verify what the voltage is several mornings in a row and then can speak first person with the data, rather than saying some old geezer on the internet (me) said........
