OK, was out of the truck, left it running (engine off, as it is powerboost) after driving 45 or so miles today. I believe low 80s. The only HVAC running was just my fan, on 1, AC turned off (I turn off AC, windows down, and let a little air blow on my feet when the weather is nice)

My noise sounds exactly like the original post here.

I've noticed it at drive-thrus as well if I wait and put the truck in park.

It definitely seems to be something related to either warmer weather or the truck being up to full operating temp as I don't believe I've ever heard it when the truck is cold started and in electric mode.

I need to do a little more digging around the net. Still sorta suspect something normal but I would like to be sure.

That's the aux trans pump

Appreciate the quick reply.

Assume it is a normal, if annoying/concerning, sound?

Hello,

I have a 2023 F150 powerboost doing the exact same thing. Bought it brand new and drove it across Canada with no issues or noises. However it's been almost 2 years, and the truck has 35,000km on it now. This noise has been happening more and more, getting louder and louder.

I brought it into the dealer, it was howling. They made me book an appointment and bring it back. Its currently sat at the dealership for 3.5 days. Im being told they cannot find the noise, and it sounds like another used powerboost that has come into their shop.

I understand there are noises that the hybrid makes. However this loud buzz that didnt exist for the first year of ownership that is now intermittently happening and getting louder, shouldn't be one of them? I have cold started my pickup in the driveway, and the second the ICE turns off this buzz starts happening, truck is still cold. Especially the transmission, as the truck just started and isn't even in gear.

I have worked in industrial areas for approximately 10 years and this noise screams bad pump...

Can anyone comment if they have had this same issue and if it was resolved? Or if anyone has any other relevant info about this noise I would appreciate feedback.

***Edit
Just picked the truck up from the dealership, the noise is still present however its now very quiet.
At first the dealership said it was normal hybrid noises.

I explained the below story and that I wanted a further explanation.

The service manager confirmed that the noise I had in my video was an electric transmission pump. He also said that he couldn't hear the noise coming from my vehicle anymore.

...Im guessing the dealership added transmission fluid? Not sure how else they got the pump to significantly quiet down.

On a side note.... I owned a 2017 Fusion, transmission leaked out. Dealership never evaluated how much fluid was left in the transmission. They replaced the gasket, filled it back up and handed it back over to me, the bearings in the transmission howled, you could feel it in the drivetrain. The dealership told me there was no noise.... (this car had less then 20,000km) I called Ford Canada, laid into them, next thing you know the car is back in the dealership with the transmission ripped apart to replace the bearings... Folks shouldn't have to push that hard to get something fixed right, I can only imagine the folks who dont know better...

Hi Thomas. Can you send us a DM with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into this for you.

Any updates with this??? That sounds almost worse then the original post. Mine is doing the same thing, it got louder to the point I was able to have someone at the dealership agree thay could hear something potentially concerning... however upon pickup, it was said they coulsnt find anything. The noise is still present only much more quiet now then it was...

I played a video I had taken of my own truck to the service manager outside, he said it was the electric pump for the transmission. Im starting to feel like they added some fluid. Not sure what else would make the pump quiet down?

Im currently being told its normal but that if it gets any louder again, to bring it right back in....

No, not really. It does seem to be slightly louder today than when i posted that video. Dealership said it was normal, but I don't trust their techs. Next dealership is 2.5 hours away so I never got a second opinion.
Hey,

Ever get anywhere with this?

Aux transmission pump. It’s always running while the ignition is on and makes this noise. It’s normal
Hey, I am not trying to be annoying by asking you this. However this noise has been confirmed to be a transmission pump (normal noise). However why would it gradually get louder and louder to a concerning level? Than after a week at the dealerahip come back with no issues but also sound much more quiet like when I first got the truck? (I could easily hear it 10ft or farther from the truck by the time it went in, and then had to stick my head under the truck today to hear it). Its a pump, im almost certain it pumps at a consistent flow rate? The only time a pump should sound that different is if the load has changed. The audible sound of this pump never changed regardless of cold start or long periods of highway driving. Again, just slowly louder and louder and louder.

If some of these units did come slightly under filled from factory, that could cause them to slowly cavitate and get louder and louder? Then say an example like myself, when after the trip to the dealership the "normal" sound that was concerning loud. Its now at a normal volume again? Sounds like something topping off the transmission fluid might quiet right back down?

Im not trying to go down a rabbit hole, but as much concern I had from just how loud the noise became. Im now just as much concerned at how it magically quieted right back down to a normal level?

... I mean I was to the point with the noise from this pump, I could hear it over a v8 truck running next to it. Now I can barely hear it over the powerboost itself unless get in close.

Aux trans pump. If it's getting louder and the dealer refuses to fix it, consider self replacement. The failure of this pump can kill both the hybrid drive unit and the trans. 99% of techs are robots guided by the logic of the computer throwing codes and following what the WSM tells them to do, nothing more, often times less. Competent techs are leaving dealers for independent shops because like most humans they like to see accomplishment/completion vs bashing the head against the wall.

I guess its for each person to decide what is normal for them. Obviously, If it is getting louder over time, there is an issue.

Mine has been quite noticeable from day one. Especially if next to a wall like at a drive thru. Sometimes even sounds like its pumping air / cavitating. But if nothing else, Has been super constant since day 1, Always sounds the same. I always thought it was some kind of aux coolant pump.

No update from my end. It definitely does it when warmed up (or weather is warm or hot). I don’t get the noise on a cold all-electric start in the garage.

I’ve decided to accept it as normal seeing that it seems to be pretty common.

Still does it. Still same volume level.

Checking in as well. My '22 PB just started making this noise. Anyone figure out what it is and if it's normal? Haven't seen a definitive answer on this thread.
