I saw a gizmo for a RAM pick up that (will not fit our tailgate) will assist with putting the tailgate UP. It was a torsion bar type deal. Being a senior type guy I sometimes find it a bit...troublesome closing the tailgate. I was wondering if anyone found a way to help assist on the closing of the tailgate- I already have a lowering assist but anyway I could not find anything- maybe one of these engineers could find an aftermarket way to do it.

There's these .... Amazon.com : f150 tailgate assist

(no experience with any of 'em, my Lariat with Bed Utility Package is power down and UP, for which this senior is grateful)

This feature was almost an after thought for me when I got my 2022 PB Lariat with the bed package. I thought "well I might use it, but probably not". Man was I wrong and this is one of the nicest features of all that gets used every time.

And let's face it: the tailgate listing itself is just plain shiny!

The tail gates with the built in step already have a torsion bar installed in the bottom of the tail gate. Not sure if anyone has ever tried putting some extra torque on the existing torsion bar so help with closing. But I know several guys have had to remove them when they delete the tail gate step. Ford added it to help counteract the weight of the tail gate step and pole. I'll be removing my torsion bar since I will be removing the step from my tail gate.

Here is a picture of the stock torsion bar...it connects from the driver side hinge to the far right of the tail gate where it is bolted to the tail gate by (2) 8MM bolts and a block that captures it.

Why do you want to remove the step? I use mine all the time getting in and out of the bed. You don’t even know it’s there if it’s not out.

My truck is lowered, so the step is not needed anymore. And the trim piece that snaps on top of the step comes off all the time. Which makes the top of the tail gate look “meh” when closed.

Oh gotcha. I hope mine doesn’t come loose. My old bones appreciate the step.

Our crew cab F150 with the FX4 package also has the step, and we use that one all the time. Definitely wouldn’t remove that one LoL

I wonder how expensive if even possible to have a "step" tailgate installed on my STX

You don't want to do that. The gate as is now when left down will 'flop' without much effort. If you increase the tension stored in the torsion bar the odds of the gate flopping around increase too much. The gate as it stands now really needs something protruding onto it to hold it down while traveling. It's kind of a weak point when you're carrying loads that need the gate down but don't actually sit on it. Every little undulation in the road will have the gate lifting and slamming back down on the retention wires. The bigger the bump the more it does it.
