Brand new member here, so hope this post is ok:

2021 5.0 V8..

Ok. Had my truck in the shop for the past two weeks. Just picked it up today. Drove home and then to the grocery store and IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN!!!

Engine Light came right back on. Went by the local Auto Parts store and the following codes appeared just like last time:
P0183 - Fuel Temp Sensor Circuit High Output
P018D - Fuel Pressure Sensor "B" Range/Performance
P3426 - Cyl 4 Deactivation Valve Control Circuit Performance
P3442 - Cyl 6 Deactivation Valve Control Circuit Performance
P3450 - Cyl 7 Deactivation Valve Control Circuit Performance

As I came back from the grocery store, the truck acted like it wanted to halfway shut down at the intersections. Same as before.
My dealership "claimed" that these aren't even normal Ford Codes and that Ford engines don't even do these malfunctions. Well, obviously, they must. The Service Manager is even a good friend of mine.
When I picked up the truck today, they said that they had gone in and reprogrammed everything. I can't remember the technical terms, as I was just happy that the Engine light was off and the truck seemed to be running fine. They said the engine light should not come back on, but also said if there was a continued issue, the light would come back on after the third crank. Well, we tested that theory before I left, and all seemed ok. Fingers were crossed. The truck decided to just wait until after the 4th crank TONIGHT!!
So, would the Powertrain/Electronic Control Module be the only thing left to try? As in replacing the current one? Seems to practically be the only thing left. Or, can anyone think of something else causing all this CRAP?

Hate to ask this, as well, but is there any way to keep the engine light from coming on long enough to just trade this dang truck back into the actual dealership I bought it from? I bought it with 20,000 miles on it. 38,000 on it now. Apparently the previous owner had similar issues that THAT dealership failed to tell me about. I hate to do that (trade it in) as I really do like this truck. But, it's been one thing after another.

ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! Please!!

Thanks...

My Menu Screen seems to always be changing from when I turn off the truck and crank it back it back up....

Previous issue had something shortening out the coils. Turned out they found a ground wire had been mounted to where it laid across two other wires at the top of the motor. The ground wire had rubbed the insulation off of them. When the engine "torqued", it caused those wires to cause the coil issue. Not sure if that repair is in the "system" or not. But, that truck had been in the shop for the issue and the previous mechanic(s) did not find the naked wiring, so they tried other methods.

The V8 does indeed do those functions, so my confidence in that dealer is not high after that statement lol. But none of these codes appear to be related to each other so yes…..this may be an electrical/grounding gremlin. Grounding faults will do crazy things, throwing a PCM at it won’t help if that’s the case. The only other case of CD codes I’ve ever seen was a faulty ground connection actually. I can’t recall if that was on this forum or another.

Yes Sir. Communicating with Mr. Jesse right now. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Not sure if I want to jump off a bridge, or just make the truck go off a bridge, at this point.

His truck has a fairly extensive history. THe dealer that previously worked on the truck has replaced several items along with a Cat.

The issue he has now does have a TSB in relation to the codes so I recommended that he take the TSB with him to the dealer. The dealer seemed to have done the PCM update but not the KAM reset.

4 of the 6 codes are related and mentioned in the TSB

2 are not and will need real diagnosis. They are related to fuel pressure. the truck has had a fuel pump replacement. Its ahd wiring issue. It has a extensive history.

I feel bad for him because he bought it unaware of the service history. thankfully he has a service plan with Ford.

I couldnt help too much because the issues do need hands on diag.

WELL, Latest Update:
Service Manager thought they had the issue fixed by reprogramming Everything. He drove it home, last night. About a 35 mile trip, one way. Got in it this morning and guess what.....
Engine light came on and cylinder deactivation happened on and off all the way back. He said that he didn't think he was gonna make it to work.
I told him, "Welcome to my world!".
Anyway, a new computer system will be ordered today. He says that is the only thing left to try and that possibly the naked wires that caused the coils to mess up, may have shorted out something in the computer system, causing all of these latest issues.

That make any sense? I was kinda thinking this, but what do I know.

May rid myself of this truck as soon as he can keep the engine light from coming back on. I sure hate to lose the $$$ to do so. Not even sure if I'd go back with a 5.0 or try the Eco, next time.

The coils were shorted out previously and had exposed/non insulated wiring? What is the background on that?

Second dealership I took it to, finally found where a ground wire/cable had been mounted to where it ran across the other two wires. I can't remember what those wires went to.
First dealership did not find that and did something else to try and fix the issue. The previous owner had the same issue and the dealership, he took the truck to, also did not rememdy the issue.
We are thinking that these wires grounding out, affected the computer system, so now they will replace all that.
If I can find what the other two dealerships did, I will post it. I can't find my paperwork.

10/20/23 UPDATE:

Got the new computer in and replaced the old one. Didn't help a thing. Engine light comes back on, but is now throwing out different codes than before. The Service Manager, himself is working on it.
Said they re-programmed all they know to reprogram and nothing is helping the cause.
He is supposed to text me what they did, but I'm afraid he will forget, since I just talked to him at 4PM on a Friday!! Fingers crossed he will.

*****He texted the following:
They even reloaded the PCM and did a "relearn". Also did a "cam re-set". No Cylinder Deactivation codes are showing up now, as before, BUT All 4 Oxygen Sensor codes are now popping up. They were not before. Engine light STILL ON.
Also did a Cylinder Misfire "Profile Relearn".

Gonna let the truck sit the weekend and see if anything changed, somehow. Then will hit at it again Monday.

Traded it in on a 2023 3.5 Ecoboost. Fingers crossed no issues now.

Thank you for all the replies.
