To add to the discussion……so once the parking brake is set, either manually or automatically, how do you disengage?
I typically both set the parking brake and release manually out of a life long habit, but now I just read where the owners manual states NOT to release while in park. Is this to prevent the truck from rolling and potentially damaging the transmission or something else?

If I recall correctly, when you’re hooked up to a trailer, it automatically turns on the parking brake whenever you shift into park.
I will kindly disagree with this behavior. I tow a lot with my truck and it does not do this.

The only time mine auto-engages is in reverse, when I have zoomed in on the hitch ball when hooking to a trailer, and then selected Park. This feature is selected on the infotainment screen when in reverse.

Have to admit, I don’t like the Auto Brake release. You have to actively press the ’gas’ pedal and the truck jumps in forward/reverse. There is nothing smooth about it.
Today, I tried parking both nose down and up; put the truck in Park, shut down and opened the door- no Parking Brake (I did not wait long). Maybe the computer needs time to process the angle before engaging.
Still fishing for the slickest option. In my mind Ford could manipulate coding- put the truck in park, Parking Brake engages; put the truck in gear, Parking Brake disengages. I guess that would be too simple ?

My 2023 F-150 has been automatically applying the emergency parking brake when I shift into park today even though I didn't change any setting. I don't know how this got enabled or how to disable.

I believe that if you have ‘Hold’ activated, Park automatically engages brake; releases when gas is applied. I am not a fan of ‘Hold’.
