OTA Updates - A quick tip for you all

Hi everyone, I am in Canada but would often head down to my cabin in Montana and it would generally trigger an OTA update. I figured it was me being in the US but I was wrong.

The commute from town to the cabin is about 30 minutes, and to park I have to use my parking brake on the slope. Both are the requirements for the OTA to trigger. I just put two and two together from reading the Ford troubleshooting page.

I haven't gotten an update in 6 months at home, and last night I parked my truck in the garage after a long drive and put the parking brake on and receive an update.

That's crazy that you need to apply the parking brake to receive OTA updates? I never have a reason to use the parking brake being a flatlander and all!? Maybe I missed that page in the owners manual?

you don’t. I never use my parking brake and have received about a dozen OTA updates

A DOZEN???

I have gotten 3 (counting last night's update w/parking brake ON) since I got my truck in April.

PS. I always put my ((P)) set to ON on my home driveway.

They missed that detail in the manual…
From the manual:

Vehicle is parked and not in motion.
• Ignition is off.
• Doors and windows are closed.
• Liftgates/tailgates are closed.
• Parking lights are off.
• Illuminated exit lights are off.
• Hazard lights are off.
• Alarm is not triggered.
• Remote start is not in progress.
• Your vehicle is not DC fast charging.
• Your vehicle is not in 4x4 mode.
• Your vehicle is not in neutral tow mode.
• Your 12V battery is charged.

I normally crack the sunroof open, roll the right rear window down, and tie a turkey feather to the antenna. Had 20 updates like that

I get OTAs when I do sales calls … I have never used the park brake and got about twondozen otas … so I say get off the couch drive your truck and make money… reward otas…

I had mine turned off until about a week ago, so I turned it on, set the update time for every day at 3am, and nothing so far. Tonight, I took about a 45 min cruise, parked it, and set the parking brake.....anxious to see if I get anything tomorrow.

DAMN IT !!! I have the turkey feather, but no rear window OR sunroof.....FML

I have found OTA updates come more quickly if I keep a miscellaneous part from my daughter's curling iron under the seat.

That’s utter nonsense. I’ve left the turkey feather on the front seat and it works fine.
