After reading all of the horror stories with OTA updates I found out my truck has never received an update (at least I think). I took my truck to my local dealer and they confirmed the truck has not received any updates. I then paid them to perform updates but I have not received any OTA updates since (3 weeks). Can anyone please advise if I am close to the full screen AA update? That is the only thing holding this truck back.

Unlikely that there have been any OTAs since then. They don't appear often. And even less often for '21s.

If you paid them for updates you've gotten nothing but less money.

Your sync is 4 years old

That's what I thought unfortunately. Just recently purchased the truck and this is my first Ford. Any suggestions? My automatic updates were greyed out but it seems they fixed that issue.

There are a few people on here with an FDRS software subscription and can see exactly what your dealer did or did not do to your truck. Once you connect with someone, message them your VIN and they can see the very detailed history.

There's really no shortcut to getting up to date from that far back. It really just takes baby sitting so I'd go back to the dealer and get them to perform GWM/APIM updates until you're current particularly since you paid for it.

My truck was one of the horror story trucks you've read about. The good news about your truck is that it's at least updated to the point that it's not stuck as your SYNC version is beyond the point that the trucks were getting stuck on. It's probably never going to catch up on OTA'S on it's own. Your best bet to get the truck fully up to date is going to be updating yourself. This will require a laptop, a Mongoose cable, battery maintainer, and a subscription to Ford's FDRS program. This will require about 20 hours of time to fully update from where your at right now.

Start by private messaging your Vin number to @rugedraw he will be able to provide you with some guidance as to what's going on with your truck and help you get started with the process.

For a general idea about this update process and how it works read the first 2 posts of the thread linked below.

There are many members on this forum who are very knowledgeable about this and all will help you.

Appreciate all the information. Seems like quite the task but I'm sure it's not that bad with some guidance. The price of the mongoose cable is tough to swallow for a one time use. Did you end up going this route?

I've had my 21 since new and recognized that it was stuck in January of 2022 the sync version was grayed out like yours was. The dealership had it for a month and couldn't fix it, sync 4 was very new back then. I found this forum and with help, I fully updated the truck myself, at that point i had no choice but to purchase a mongoose cable. When I started the thread i linked you was on page 5 the FDRS thread is now over 1000 pages from people who updated there trucks themselves. No other cable than the mongoose will work. There is a loaner list you can get on and you will eventually get use of a cable as a loaner, there are also people here selling the ones they used you have to look around. I see it as a tool that's needed to repair my truck and Ive updated other trucks using it so it lives it my tool box. It really isn't difficult to do the updates, It just requires your time and undivided attention while doing so.

Eh, this isn't exactly true ;)

The chinese don't stand still. There are multichannel can bus tools on the market, they're cheap and utilize factory drivers while working with both FDRS and Forscan

Recommendations? Tried the Topdon RLink and it did not work and support was non-existent.
