You could go the other way and supercharge it! Then you could troll the roads hunting PB’s and making them put gas in your real man truck ?

I have a '22 XLT PB, SuperCrew, 6'7" bed with 3.73 rear end. Couple things:
1. Yes, the turning radius sucks, but that's a function mainly of the steering mechanism. i believe the length of the truck has a minimal impact.
2. I have a retractable tonneau cover which i really like but it takes up about a foot at the front. I can afford that extra foot in a 6'7" bed, but doubt it would be an acceptable loss in a short bed. (For various reasons, the retractable tonneau was the only practical alternative for me).
3. For the used '22 youre looking at, check to see which features, if any, were deleted from the original build. i was lucky, i bought mine off the lot in July '22 with NO deletes, but i believe trucks delivered later in thecyear had things like NAV, SiriusXM and other stuff deleted. if you can, put an eyeball on the original window sticker.
4. My gas mileage around town is around 19. Not awful, but less than i hoped. I really like the PB.
Best wishes.

Great tip. My ‘22 job 2 is the poster child for deletes?

I’d say go for it if you think the boost in mpg is needed for mostly city driving, you won’t get any appreciable increase on the highway though. The EPA ratings have recently been updated. If you look at the 2024 F-150 order guide the 5.0 and 3.5 are now rated the exact same 17 city/24 highway for 4WD models. No changes have been made to the engines, that tells me the rating scheme has been updated. Pretty well known the 3.5 was NOT getting better MPG than the 5.0 on the highway despite what the sticker said. The sticker no longer makes those bogus claims. If you do a lot of highway the 5.0/3.5/PB are all getting 23-24 MPG. The 3.5 and 5.0 will get the same city mileage. The PowerBoost will bolster the city mileage by a good margin, which in turn could bring up your average.

I don’t care about gas mileage myself, but that doesn’t invalidate someone’s opinion that does!

I'm no stranger to driving large trucks. I can't believe the difference between my old 2011 and my 2021. Same motor, gearing, etc. Just a difference in bed length and transmission.

As for towing, mostly in the winter.

I can’t find 2024 EPA numbers from the government or any window stickers as of yet ??‍♂

2023 FX4 PB here with 3.73 and 5.5' bed - I'm averaging 21-22 mpg. Stock everything though.

I know it's not offered with the Platinum trim, but I'm averaging 22-24 mpg with my SCREW STX 2.7L 4x4 with 3.55 ratio. That's including newer falken A/T tires as well which dropped mpg by about 1. The 2.7L is the way to go if mpg and longevity is what you're after. Obviously the 7,700 towing capacity is the biggest concern, but I never tow anything. 2.7L has plenty of power in my opinion.

Preliminary is in the order guide. 4x4 they are now rated the same.

I have a 22 PB w/ 3.73 gears and the 5.5 bed. My lifetime average MPG is about 19-20. Keep in mind I have BFG KO2's and Fox coilovers. I also only drive about 7 miles to work and back so not ideal. When I'm camping I fill up the bed with gear and thought a 6 foot bed would be better initially, but being able to fit in the garage, have more space in the back seat, and maintain a decent turning radius (especially on trails) far outweighs the larger bed. No complaints with my decision. Good luck!
I have a 22 PB Platinum 3.73 with 5.5 bed. I 100% echo above.

I love my truck, can't imagine a 6.5 bed. I get about 17.5MPG and I have a FP lift, heavy LT tires, DECKED system, Leer Cap, Roof bars. I also deleted my air dam.

None of those mods have really affected my in the city driving. I work from home but hit the gym and downtown and never have issues.

Pull trigger - do it.

Mine is a SCREW 4x4 5.0 w/ the 3.73 rear. I'm surprised your only getting 16mpg. Post supercharger install I'm averaging 15.6 and thats with a ton of hooning around and data logging in tow and sport modes.

You didn't mention if you're lifted on heavier wheels and tires or not. Are you? If so, and you plan to do the same on the EB, I'd say stay unless the bed length becomes the major factor.

If it wasn't for the 7.2 kW generator, I may have ordered another 5.0 with the 3.31 rear end. My '21 5.0 got around 18-19 MPG in the city and 19-21 MPG on the highway with 3.31s. With the Powerboost, I anticipate seeing a slight bump in city mileage but if I was looking for strictly highway, I'd probably go 5.0. My brother has had several 2.7s and loves them but he admits that his highway mileage suffers in wind and hills. I imagine the 3.5 would be the same but maybe slightly less affected. The 5.0 just doesn't care about the wind and will just eat the miles at 1700 RPM.

When towing, I can promise you the 5.0 will get better MPG than either of the 3.5 variations (Eco or Power). When I towed my 25' Airstream, I got about 13-13.9MPG and when I'd get to the park, a common discussion amongst other campers was mileage of their rigs. People with the 3.5 were usually between high 10s to high 11s with the rare person getting 12 MPG. Towing up a hill though, the 3.5s would pass me all day long but I'd get the better mileage. I was okay getting passed on those hills because when towing my Airstream, I was never in a race.

To me though, for the way I drive and my lifestyle, the deciding factor was the capability of the 7.2 kW generator for boondocking and the occasional home power outages and increased city MPGs when empty during normal driving.

So...if the 3.5s just slow down and hang with you their mileage might improve to match yours?

Is the 5.0 not capable of keeping up?

The scenario you're describing would apply to identically powered and configured vehicles wouldn't it if one truck raced up the hills?
