so let me get this straight.
Ford is planning to build a battery plant in Michigan which it will run and own. the plant will use Chinese methods of creating batteries which are used in many different companies and it's being halted because politicians have an issue with it?
Why don't the politicians have an issue with other manufacturers using this tech?

My understanding (which may or may not be accurate) is that the CCP will have control over the plant and all of its assets.

Of course it's just one story, but it had the opportunity to at least imply whether or not it's a front for the CCP?

If it's wholly owned by a subsidiary of Ford, I don't think the CCP is a subsidiary of a corporation.

Regardless, it makes good press for politics and those that practice it as a profession.
My own personal disappointment is that I would like Ford to be able to offer the LFP battery technology that their competitors offer. They already have a steep enough hill to climb to even be viable in the near future. LFP technology is going to be a known entity as the consumers become more educated. It's absolutely the battery I would spec if I were to purchase another EV.

I run an engineering company up here in the great white north and I only use American batteries, actually they’re made outside Vegas (makes my trips fun)

there are some halfway decent folks out there but we are few and far between as most are just trying to save a buck. Offshore batteries are complete garbage in my personal testing experience, physically and electrically

this may be irrelevant but just wanted to throw this in the pile for those that are interested

I wish we could say the same about EV batteries someday.
But we have to be allowed to build them HERE for them to be American Made Batteries.

They definitely are making American Made Batteries in Texas!
Tennessee and Kentucky coming online soon.
Maybe the powers that be can come to some kind of agreement (political) and this LFP plant can get done. If not Detroit, there's 49 other states.

I saw that bit of news yesterday somewhere. It's such a confusing era in our culture and politics.

The governor of Michigan working to get Ford TO build the plant.
The UAW & Republicans making efforts to thwart it.

I'm not that political savvy, but it's such a strange dichotomy?

I'd have no problem if they made them right here in in Dirty Jersey. We have hundreds of superfund sites that would be great places to redevelop. It started in the 1800's with steam locomotives, then all of the WW2 and post war production. Standard Oil, now ExxonMobil, Pratt-Whitney, Bendix, Johns Manville, Hooker Chemical, Even Ford Motor Company has 3 sites here. And as a great added bonus our voting ballots are already mailed in triplicate. English, Spanish, and Chinese! ? ?

wait so they’re not allowed to be made in the US? I’m late to the conversation..
