Well this Noco Genius 10 charger looks like a nice little unit. I charged my battery (quickly) and now it has been pulsing green. The instructions are basically garbage but youtube has a few halfway decent vids about it.

I was able to find out that once the battery is charged it will pulse green. This is some kind of "optimization" of the battery, but it is fully charged. Can anyone that uses these tell me:

1 - How long the optimization typically runs for?
2 - If taking the charger off before it stops pulsing (optimizing) does it affect anything.

Thanks for any replies.

The maintenance cycle on the NOCO chargers does not "complete". It maintains that float charge until you disconnect it. If your NOCO is pulsing green, you are good to remove it anytime you want.

Thanks, I just took it off. I will see tonight if that was the issue for the update.

You can also leave it attached. I do it with mine. Leaving it attached was the only way the most recent update would install OTA for me.

Thanks for letting me know that. If this doesn't work tonight, I will try that for tomorrow. I hope it just works. :)

Good luck :)
The amount of toil these crappy 12v batts + updates have created is on another level. Never had this issue with previous brands.

That light will stay solid green after a while. Have the same charger. I was under the impression that the last 25 percent just takes a while. It’s taken overnight for me a few times to stay solid.

I have a Genius 5 I leave connected all the time. I don't know when I will be going someplace. With the locking plug, easy disconnecting.

One thing I noticed is that even after a 45 to 60 minute drive, when I connect it, the Genius is showing red. One would think that after that long of a drive the battery would be charged.

Yes that is a pity that the charging for something that is "battery dependent" isn't a little more robust than it is.

Success! OTA update worked.

That charge did the trick. Funny thing is that it really did not charge for even 1/2 hour before it went to pulsing green. It may have been even less time as I hooked it up, verified it was charging, and did not look at it again for about 30 minutes. It was pulsing when I looked again so it must have been less than 30 minutes charge time.

This Noco really is a nice little unit. Really should be standard issue with the PB.

Yeah, that's just how these NOCOs work. A battery can be fully charged, and if you hook up the NOCO charger to it, it will show a single red indicator light (indicating 25% charge). Then after a few minutes, a second red light (indicating 50% charge), after a few more minutes, the two reds plus a yellow (indicating 75% charge), then finally the green. The NOCO goes through its own steps, its own order of procedure. It doesn't jump from A to Z, it sort of has to go through the alphabet (okay, bad analogy, but you get the idea...).

Very happy it worked out for you! Even though I upgraded my battery to a larger H8 size battery to get off of the daily-charger-use treadmill, I am just paranoid enough that if I get a notice of a pending OTA, I put the truck back on the charger for that night - for the exact reason that you just experienced.

A proper 12v battery, battery monitoring and more efficient ota process should be standard issue.

everything we have to do with chargers is because ford sucks at the above.
